Multiplayer ROM Hacks
« on: August 07, 2015, 05:42:54 PM »
If there's two things I love, it's emulation and local co-op. ROM hacking has become much more innovative than simple level editors in recent years, and some hackers have added multiplayer modes to games that were originally a single player experience.

Since I love those kinds of hacks the most, I figured I'd make this thread as a resource for them. Hopefully you'll enjoy these as much as I have, and if you have found others then please share!

NOTE: These are links to patches, not actual ROMs. I'm not sure what Chrono Crash's policy is for this sort of thing, so try to avoid linking directly to ROMs unless DC says otherwise.

Sonic Classic Heroes - up to 3 players, for the entirety of Sonic 1 and 2!

Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 4 Player Edition

Super Mario World 2 Player Co-op - simultaneous 2 player, a la New Super Mario Bros

Final Fantasy 3 (NES) Two Player - player 1 controls the top two characters, player 2 controls the bottom two.

Like I said, if you can find any other ones, please share. :)

 Interesting news!

I really wonder about Seiken Densetsu 3 cause the original game is in Japanese. Will the 3 player patch work with translated rom?

I believe it does. I know I've played it with my brothers, and I only have the translated ROM.

Just to clarify - as Nick said, linking to patches, emulators, and such is OK, but not the ROMs. That's highly illegal and could get us shut down in a heartbeat.

Very cool topic BTW.

in a random purchase, I just bought a NES four score recently  :D - It might actually be useful now.... I just need 3 more people in the same room who like playing NES....lol

Unfortunately not all of these work on actual hardware, using the Everdrive N8 and/or Powerpak.
