My apologies for the influx of forum spam the last couple of days; they tend to show in up short bursts like that. Obviously we take them down the moment they are spotted.

Believe it or not it's actually a good thing when they are stupid enough to post. These are not "new" spammers showing up; nearly all of the accounts got in before we took better measures to stop their registration in mid/late January.

It simply isn't feasible to hand search our entire account list for all the bogus names already in place, but when they show themselves by posting something, *boom* dead. It's therefore only a matter of time before they weed themselves out.

There should be a CAPTCHA system for those who want to register in this forum (ie. I am not a robot), If that's possible.

Yeah Captcha's are a joke. SMF has them built in, and we used to use them, but they were completely ineffective. Real people were frustrated, and spammers walked right through them.

Part of that is spammers are actually relying more on low tech methods these days. They just hire humans based in third world countries. No amount of Captha's, questions, and verification is going to stop a hut full of Nigerian teenagers with nothing better to do.

Best thing to do is slow them down with effort gateways (which we have), and then delete their accounts on sight.
