Judgment & Perspective

As the founder, owner, and operator of Chronocrash and its affiliates, I (@DCurrent) hold ultimate authority over any issues that may arise. In order to ensure consistency and fairness, I have delegated day-to-day operations to a team of Administrators and Moderators (see forum staff).

The team of Administrators and Moderators has been carefully selected based on their capabilities and commitment to maintaining a positive environment. Their decisions regarding infractions and arbitration are considered final. If you receive a friendly warning or infraction from the moderation team, please understand that it is not personal. Our goal is to ensure a smooth experience for everyone in the community, not just a select few.

We acknowledge that cultural differences exist, and while we strive to accommodate various perspectives, decisions regarding acceptability will ultimately align with my cultural values.

For more information on enforcement procedures, please refer to the Enforcement section.

Language & Posting Quality

Use of English

English is the lingua franca of Chronocrash. You may not post in other languages.

Quality

We do not expect perfect writing. That said, you are required to post legibly using basic punctuation and spelling. This is to keep a reasonable level of professionalism in discussions and ensure non-native English members who rely on translators are able to use the forum.

Etiquette

Adding a bit of flourish to your writing is fine, but be reasonable. Gross overuse of icons, text speak, leet speak, CAPS LOCK, colored text, excessive profanity, and other forms of illegibility are not tolerated.

Double Posting

Double posting in the same thread and the occasional thread bump are allowed within reason. Just don’t get carried away. Contributing more to a topic you just posted in is fine. Bumping a topic once every couple of weeks or so is no big deal either. Bumping once a day without anything new to contribute will quickly get the thread locked and earn you infractions.

Thread Necromancy

Thread necromancy, which involves posting in older or inactive threads, is generally discouraged. However, there is no hard rule against thread necromancy, so if you wish to ask for clarification on an old support topic or have a contribution to make on an older discussion, you may do so.

Spam & Advertising

Spam content takes many forms, including but not limited to the following.

  • Unsolicited advertising.
  • Excessive Illegibility.
  • Non-English.
  • AI Generation.

Commercial spam and its source account(s) are deleted on sight. We will deal with other forms of spam on a case by case basis. In most instances we will remove the offending post and take enforcement actions as necessary. DO NOT respond to a spam post. Responding in any way encourages more spam. Report spam posts to the moderation staff and we will handle them.

If you wish to advertise a non ChronoCrash related product, post a request in the Forum Issues section asking permission. In most cases it won't be a problem.

Toxic Behavior & Conflicts

We do not tolerate toxic behavior of any kind. You will treat yourself and everyone else with respect, full stop. Toxic behavior includes any of the following:
  • Name calling.
  • Trolling.
  • Passive aggressive attacks.
  • Thought policing.
  • Overuse of slang or profanity.
  • Derogatory references to sexual orientation, politics, race, religion, area of origin, etc.
  • General abrasiveness (anything that would probably start a fight in the real world).
  • Any form of threats or harassment, in and out of the forum (see Harassment).
  • Other incidents judged inappropriate by forum staff (see Judgment and Perspective).

Clarifying Toxic

"Toxic" does not mean an opinion you don't agree with. All points of view are welcome here. What it does mean is you will conduct yourself with decorum and tact at all times.

Consider the following examples:

"I don't believe homosexuality is natural."
That won't be a popular statement at all, but it is permitted because:
  1. It is presented with courtesy.
  2. It correctly identifies itself as a personal opinion.
  3. It does not target any specific individual.
While certainly expressing a controversial opinion, this person demonstrates they can participate in reasonable discussion.

"Go away fag!"
The author of this post is guaranteed an instant lifetime ban.
  1. It makes a derogatory reference to sexual orientation.
  2. It targets an individual in a combative manor.
  3. The statement is crass, crude, and offers nothing to any discussion.

Whether through ignorance or intentional malice, it is obvious this person is not, nor will be capable of mature discourse.

Harassment

Harassment is any form of unwanted contact, in or out of the community. The most common form of harassment is reopening a closed to dispute outside of the ChronoCrash community's control. Examples include but are not limited to the following:

  • Private messages.
  • Social media.
  • YouTube (comments, slander videos, etc.).
  • Other forums.

Regardless of location or form, harassment is considered a toxic behavior and will be treated as if it occurred within the forum.

Application

Any member incapable of following the above policies will be sanctioned, regardless of the underlying reason.

All this said, we are aware misunderstandings can and probably will occur. This is expected - especially in an international forum where language and cultural barriers can muddle communication. I want to stress again, it's less about what you say, and more about how you say it. If you have a problem with another member, some of the staff, or me, please address us directly. So long as the discussion is mature, I will be happy to talk things out with you and do whatever I can to resolve the problem. This goes for all staff members.

Vigilante Moderation

We are a friendly community - politely explaining the rules and unwritten culture here is perfectly acceptable, but beyond that it is not your job to police the forum. If you feel someone is in violation, please make a moderator report and let the staff handle it.

If another member attacks you directly, here or elsewhere, report it to us and then ignore them. If you respond in kind, you are in violation just as much as the person who started it.

Round Robin

Round Robins occur when threads degenerate into circular discussions with one or more participants restating the same basic arguments ad infinitum. Round Robin threads are subject to closure. If the Round Robin is part of a larger thread with other discussions or relevant information, staff members will split the thread as needed. Round Robins alone are not considered an offensive action. However, any attempt to re-open a Round Robin elsewhere is cause for infraction, and in some cases may qualify as harassment.

Prohibited Content

You may not post, link, or upload any of the following:

Note these restrictions apply to private messages as well. If I discover any illicit exchanges through PM's, all parties are subject to infractions, and possible referral to the appropriate authorities.

Live Chat

Chat rooms are provided for general discussion, socializing, and live development. They are not for general support questions. These belong in the forum. This policy is in place to maintain a searchable knowledge base for all members. Technical support questions are subject to migration to the forum and or removal on sight.

All other forum rules apply to chat rooms.

Accounts & Profiles

Account names and profiles are subject to the same conditions as forum posts. Any profile information judged inappropriate by moderation staff is subject to change without notice and may cause infractions depending on severity.

Latin characters are required for account names. Any non-Latin account names that slip by the verification process are considered spam and removed on sight.

Sock Puppets

Sock puppets are accounts created to deceive others, or circumvent rules enforcement. Creating sock puppet accounts for any reason is cause for an instant lifetime ban. It is permissible to create temporary alternate accounts in the case of legitimate technical issues. Once the issue is resolved, the alternate and original accounts will be merged.

Published Account Credentials (Bypassing Registration)

ChronoCrash has no interest in spamming your email box. Our registration requirements are to encourage active participation, and as a regulatory effect on bot leeching. Published account credentials (i.e. BugMeNot) are a form of bandwidth theft and a security threat. Shared or published accounts are banned and blocked on sight.

Enforcement

Enforcement of forum rules is handled on a case by case basis, with the offending member's previous behavior, seriousness of offense, and overall effect to the community all taken into account.

Friendly Warning

For most issues we will ask the member to cease the offending behavior. If the member complies, the matter is closed.

Official Warning

In cases of more serious or repetitive rule violations staff may issue warning points. Examples include the following:
  • Continuing the offending behavior after a friendly warning.
  • Repetitive minor offenses over time (i.e. member received multiple friendly warnings).
  • Willful violation of forum guidelines.
Most warnings incur 1-10 points depending on severity of the issue. Points from a given warning expire after 30 days.

Sanction

Sanctions automatically apply against members who accrue a set number of warning points. Note staff may apply sanctions without warning when it is obvious a member is unwilling or incapable of maturely settling issues.
  • 10 points, 10 day mute - While muted, the member may access the forum, but cannot post or start threads.
  • 30 Points, 30 day mute.
  • 50 Points, 90 day ban - Banned members lose all access privileges to the forum.
  • 100 Points, Lifetime ban - In the case of a lifetime ban, the account and associated issue falls entirely under my (DCurrent) purview. I will honor intellectual property rights, but retention or removal of any other content (posts, conversations, advertisements, etc.) is at my discretion. Alternate accounts and proxy addresses are blocked on sight. At a later date I may be open to reinstating an account, but there are no guarantees. Any further discussion depends on the individual case. If you attempt to harass me further the only response you'll receive is block and ignore.
In addition to possible sanctions, the offending thread may be locked, split, or removed from public access. Thread modifications are judged by case, with overall community benefit accounted for. An obvious spam or offensive thread is removed, while a long standing thread with useful information might have the offending portion split off.
