Cowboys Unison - Orchestra into the New Horizon. (Definitive Edition) are available now.
Download the latest version.

What´s new?
-Characters are now able to run and shoot at the same time.
-Added a new stage intro.
-Redesigned the attack pattern of most bosses.
-Added some branch paths.
And much more changes (see the readme in the game)

Cowboys unison is a Run and Gun/Beat´em up video game, in terms of a fan game, this is an non-officcial and direct sequel of Sunset Riders and Gun.Smoke. The story? a Cowboy named Darius Schneider and Elise Whitefield join forces to fight the most dangerous outlaws of the old west armed with 2 legendary revolvers called The Unison Guns.
The game is a homage and parody of the western genre, adding cameos and references of some popular cowboy characters.
Cowboys Unison shows a gameplay that slightly mixes elements seen in games like Gunstar Heroes, Contra, Megaman and even Bucky O Hare. (Arcade Version)
With various unlockable modes if you beat the game.
Coop cpu mode, an unlockable new character, gallery of art, 2 extra final bosses and Boss rush.
This has been my last biggest game created in OpenBOR, I worked on it for 3 weeks straight day and night thanks to confinement, adding things, removing others, polishing the game and creating all the character concept art on my own, some are original and others from then borrowed, even so the game is short but with replayable features.
I hope you like my game and share it on other websites.

You have good taste!"Bucky O'Hare" the arcade game is one of my favorite arcade games!
I also love run n gun games like "Cowboys of moo mesa", "Sunset Riders" & "Mystic Warriors".
Will you continue development at some other point in the future? It could become an amazing ongoing project ;D
The only game similar in concept that i know is "Zombie West", it mixes the both of best worlds from "Bucky O'hare" (multidirectional movement) and the aesthetics of "Sunset Riders":

Unfortunately there has been no news since 2018...it may be stalled, or even worse, cancelled :( which sucks as it was one of my favorite openbor projects that i was looking up to.
So i thank you for creating a new game based on such an idea and encourage you to keep going!
If you need inspiration for some things or maybe just curious to check it out, there is also "Metal Slug Beat 'Em Up" which i thought also mixed these elements brilliantly--and fortunately, this game was finished:

Thank´ s for playing my mod, I like the cowboy genre but I was never a fan as such, personally my favorite genre was always the Fantasy / Medieval setting but with the development of 2 games already created by me based on the theme in OpenBOR, which are Guardians of the Requiem and Warslayers, i wanted to create a run and gun with OpenBOR and at first I was not sure in which environment to recreate it, one day playing a small Red Dead Redemption clone on android called West Gunfighter I was surprised how good it was despite its little size and ultimately gave me inspiration to recreate my latest openBOR mod in a Western setting. If you have suggestions or if you want to modify my game to improve or add improvements, feel free to do so.
Sorry for the english in my game, it´ s not my principal language.

Don't worry, everyone starts out as a novice and ends as a teacher. Have a happy day  ;D

Campaign finished; Thank you for this time, osman ! It's three years old at this point and your skills have grown much since, so I will not make a thorough feedback beyond the storytelling, and just focus on advices that can help you. So, this play went :
-2 playthroughs(meaning I've used all my continues once)
-1 continue
-3 life
-239 832 points
-recognized the Lucky Luke cameo in background, GG
-spanish is nice

I stumbled upon the following bugs :
-Billy the Kid(and to a lesser extent Silverstone) had a ledge in the arena but couldn't jump, so I just had to lure them to the corner of the edge and Melee my way to victory. Wise advice : do not put relief on a boss arena if the boss cannot jump, that's just asking for trouble 😅
Cowboys Unison - 0001.png

-at level 2, a desperado drops a life, but since this is one of the last ones that appears, I simply do not have the time to pick it up before the level ends
-the final boss was easy peasy, I lost only one life : you remember the laughing animation he does just before Melee attacking ? Well, turns out that you can just spam Shooting, as the Unison Guns parry animation is shorter than his laughing animation. Simply put, he will continuously attack you slowly enough for you to eternally shoot and parry his attacks
-enemies can use HP items, while they're supposed to be meant for the player
-skeletons were neutral, they ended helping me way more than anything else by attacking my opponents

I follow Kimono's feedback about disonnant artstyle and will also have this stance about the audio. The level announcements were cool, but the in-games audio were of varying quality, and kinda off-putting when the characters are supposed to talk but that their mouths don't move at all. Finally, the narration was alright, but directly following the end by the secret bosses didn't make much sense. I would suggest you to have them as an unblockable mode, like at the end of a Boss Rush mode, by example !

Some added advices would be :
-lose an entire life when falling is an hard punishment in a game were platforming is secondary, being the only reason for having used all of my Continues. I would suggest losing a bit of life instead
-unvanishing corpses may had to the experience, but there is a certain treshold of enemy presence in a Beat-em up when this just become laughable. Look at that and tell me you expected things to go this way ! Beyond that, taking a dropped item in such a sea of corpse is kind of a "needle in a haystack" scenario
Cowboys Unison - 0000.png
-do not make character pop in and out of the story unannounced. Your characters have to react to it in order of not make it feel kind of jarring
-screenjumping(I think that's how it's called ? The thing when an NPC enters the scene by leaping from the screen to it) is a really cool but peculiar entrance, don't use it for base enemies
-taking a base ennemy and giving him a long life bar does not count as "making a mini-boss", it just ends up being a bullet sponge. You can make a reskin, but give him special attacks
-shotguns attacks(enemies Shoots than instantaneously hit you if you're in front of them) isn't fun, especially in platforming level as they can shoot through platforms while you can't, that's just unfair
That would be all ! I take a pause, then will look at Symphonia Battalion. Hope those advices will be of help to you. 👋

Thanks for the heads up, yes, this was one of my first fan games so it's not nearly perfect but at least
Don't have breaking bugs, Gunslingers Unison are more polished because I make this game first and then the prequel. The amount of corpses was made with purpose, yes, I know that may be really annoying, the skeletons are neutral? Yes, enemies are hostile for them, the skeletons are weirdly confused, you can kill'em but they won't harm you.
This was my first attempt to create a game with full own (and amateur) Chibi art style. Not professional but still a bit fun. Thanks for your advises, I've waiting for your review to Symphonia Battalion so I can learn much more and create better games or updates.

I've released the Plus edition with an important improvement.
Characters are now able to run and shoot at the same time.
Added a new stage intro and much more changes.

Done and cleared ! Hello, Osman. Since that's the final version, I'll assure there's no gamecrashing bug and focus on the positives ; the first level is a nice addition, the reworked cutscenes are nice, the new "laser" attack of the ladies enemies is superb, and the added jump attack to the bosses as well as the run&gun change a lot about the boss fight. Guess that's the end of this one ! :D
I will try GunUn next. ^^

Thanks again for your Review, it was thanks to your comments that I decided to improve this game a little more, please take a look and play my Recca Soldiers Advance Wars mod, I would like to know your point of view on that game too.
