If I actually upgrade Lucia, I may fix even her stance to something slightly more possible fo a human being. ^^;

Lucia is just terrible all around IMO, and Dean wasn't much better. The silly broken back stance and gainaxing breast bounce is bad enough, and it only gets worse from there. Her kicks have some of the worst cases of marionette animation I've ever seen. Very awkward, lazy sprite work in general. She needs a redo pretty much from the ground up.

They (sort of) saved her in SF5, but she's an odd design in general. I am curious to see what @Mr.Q! will do with her.

That's some improvement there, for sure!
I like the way Capcom did Carlos. I mean, maybe it's a screen resolution thing? If you take a look at a Carlos sprite sheet you might find him too tall and thin, but remember that SNES screen resolution makes the original sprites to look a little stretched to fit the 4:3 TV screens. In this game, I preserved SNES vertical screen resolution and made it a little wider but not wide enough to reach the 16:9 aspect ratio, so, if you put the option Stretch to fit the screen, you might find them looking like it used to be back then.

This can be seen in the current FFp demo with Guy and Haggar, it really looks like an arcade game :)
Carlos is 6'2 and 200lbs.
The original pixel ratio of sfc is 8:7. In this ratio, the characters look long and thin, which is obviously wrong. The best character proportions can be obtained by stretching 10% horizontally. As shown in the picture, you can use the square box as a reference.2024-05-14_212813_cr.png

So I always recommend using RetroArch to play old pixel games, because you can freely define the pixels stretched along the xy axis. To get the best ratio on modern LCD display.
I'm curious about the shortcut or way to access this menu in retroarch.

However, yes, square pixels show fetter the real proportions of the characters from Snes games...

Almost all characters from FF3 look like crap, IMHO.

Wow, thanks for the useful insight guys. I just noticed how broken they are in FF3. As a SEGA kid, I never played FF until emulator.

I agree with the sentiment, though Guy and Haggar are decently animated the new characters have a lot of issues.
When @DCurrent said that Lucia needed a total rework he wasn't joking. But that's a lot of work.

Lucia is a beautiful character. But her idle stance is ridiculous and her boob animation lacks subtlety.

Anyways what wrong with Dean? It's hard to express what doesn't work with him. I'll try to be brief:

- his walking animation feels stiff, he almost walks like a cyborg. The Capcom Wiki suggest that, since he's using electricity, he might actually be a Cyborg.
Still Dean barely feels like a Final Fight character,

- his shoulders are often hunched forward like a boxer (think Balrog). However Dean is not a boxer, he's a street fighter,

- his arms are too bulgy and too long for his size,

- his black pants legs are barely animated,

On a whole Dean feels boring because of his lackluster animations. Really sad because I actually dig his fighting style.

Yup.
Under the same reasoning, I am also modifying Cody's overall look, which seems kinda off next to the other characters somehow. Must be the way they made his face and hair, along with his stance, he seems to be just standing there, nothing special, plus his face and hair don't match the character select portrait as much as the others do.
So Im using this Cody, reimaginated and properly looking:

Originally, Dean had a robotic arm:

They probably dropped this idea when Sega shown Zan in SOR3 being a cyborg
Fascinating! Thank you for that juicy tidbit. Now that I think of it, why not cyberize Dean, then?
I mean restoring his cyber arm from the promo video and concentrating on his electrical moves?

Heck I would give him even more. Hmm! Idea time:

- might give Dean a jetpack like the one the blue ninja has in Ninja Warriors again,
- grant him a cyber arm or a power glove:
# Captain Commando has power glove,
# Jake from Night Slasher has a cyber arms,

Since they're several OpenBOR ongoing project dedicated to Final Fight, I hope modders might consider the above for Dean.

Finally concerning Lucia and her problematic stance I recommend taking a glance at Rushing Beat 3 (aka The Peace Keepers):

Elfin was visually well-designed. Not only the work on her legs is phenomenal but her idle stance is top-notch.
Besides both Lucia and Elfin wear a short and a coat. Here's her full sprite-sheet:

All of that translates into sprites edits / commissioning / some considerable work time.
IDK really, but time will tell.

I’m blown away by these screenshots! This is way more than promising, this module is going to be a wonderful treat for beat'em up fans.

Now there’s one screenshot that troubles me. In the "Character Select" screen, Cody’s portrait feels a bit off. Allow me to explain:

First, his right and left shoulders are off center (one shoulder is much higher than the other). I suppose it was to create a sense of movement (Cody is ready for battle)?
Thing is, the other characters on the select screen are not like that: Haggar and Guy have they shoulders aligned horizontally.

Secondly, and that’s what really bothers me, Cody’s neck and head. More specifically:

Cody's 'neck muscles' are too thick for the martial artist that he is. The muscles on the screenshot are more those of a body-builder.

About his head, I feel like it has been put just on top of the neck but the proportions feel wrong somehow. Maybe it has to do with the big neck?

Anyways I apologize for being such a nit-picker and I'm convinced there's room for improvement for that portrait.
So I hope Cody’s character select portrait will be adjusted.

Sincerely love your work @Mr.Q! and waiting eagerly to play to this marvel of a game.

I like all pixel art PrimeOP from Scrollboss has done for the game, he made all characters portraits so far aiming to make them look like 90's Capcom official art.
