i have aquired today an sega saturn adapter to use on my pc
http://www.amazon.com/SS-Controller-Adapter-for-PC/dp/B0089O10BC

i tested it and works perfectly on my emulators and such but for my surprise when i try to load openbor with the adapter plugged it crashes openbor

in most recent versions openbor crashes imediately but in my oldest version 3709 it at least load the pak selector menu but crashes on game load

i also have plugged on the same pc a xbox 360 controller, a ps2 usb converted to arcade stick controller, ouya controller paired but not in use alongside ps3 contoller not in use too and now those 2 sega saturn controllers

i found the error

if you have more than 4 joystick devices in the "devices and printers" openbor will detect 5 joysticks and will crash so i removed the ouya joystick and now with just 4 joysticks installed on pc openbor works again

Probably it's because of the adapter, maybe it needs two controllers for that, with if you plugged only one, the other port would be interpreted as null. That's what I thought.

You said that when you unplugged the Ouya controller, it worked. How about when you unplugged the other ones, does it work as well?

if you have more than 4 controllers installed on your machine( control panel printers and devices) openbor does not work

stick with just four and it works :)

Come to think about it, OpenBOR only supported 4 players. The fact that it crashes could either mean that it has overflow on five joysticks or something else entirely, but that's something.

BTW, what I meant was if you removed the other controllers as well aside from the Ouya controller, the game still works right? For example removing the XB360 controller or removing the arcade stick.
