Announcement:
since "WIDESCREEN" & "REBALANCE" are beginning to have significant differences,
my current recommendation is to play 21c first & then continue with new modes & adventures in REBALANCE
& I will continue to try & bridge versions as much as possible.

PROS: An enhanced version that takes advantage of a newer Openbor build
FIxEs!
no more same players in 4 player mode, better controller mapping, rumble, (thanks to Kratus)
some stuff that would get levels stuck has been fixed, Aestetics restored in the new engine, fixes to music

4 players are now fully functional
Smash brothers type evasion , press block & direction to dodge (Danno)
Continue countdown bug is fixed now
CONS: Some bugs left with Grappler types, now it takes patience, skill, & a bit of luck to beat the game
persistent bugs:
if you ever get stuck in a level - press start- exit, close the engine completely, start it again, choose continue

some characters freeze the game if they "land on their feet" when they have 0 health (very rare), the engine has to be closed completely forcefully - just start again & continue. Don't know if this happens on the newer versions

bugs:
you may have to insist on making the install a bunch of times - works in newer androids
this version probably does not work with older Android systems
after the install it takes about a minute to load
same bugs as with the windows version -


ANDROID OPTIONs 2

For Older Android models
install & run this APK first,
ChronoCrash
after that, navigate you Android's files & place the .pak file from the desired game in the PAKS folder that is created after running OpenBor & run openbor again , you should see the game's title in the list

For New Android models
first download this file:
extract the apk file and run it, this will create the PAKS folder
if you navigate your files in your android device, look for a folder called PAKS
download any of the windows versions, extract and take the .pak file & place it in the PAKS folder in your android device
run openbor again , you should see the game's title in the list

Section 2

video options recommendations:
for gameplay -

display mode - full
video backend - SDL (keeps music syncronised better)
scale - automatic
hardware filter - bilinear
software filter - 16bit simple (it can be disabled with custom resolution)
fullscreen type - preserve aspect ratio

its better to create a custom resolution with you video card software
480 by 240 to keep the game at top speed


for capturing & editing later:
display mode - window
video backend - SDL (keeps music syncronised better)
scale - 100%
hardware filter - disabled
software filter - disabled

you can modify you desktop to work at a low resolution
(640 by 480 on my machines) to see better.
any filtering to give the game a CRT "blur" can be added during
video editing (this helps with fake transparency tricks the game has)

for capturing and less video filter edit work:

display mode - window
video backend - SDL (keeps music syncronised better)
scale - 125% or more
hardware filter - bilinear
software filter - 16 bit simple 2X (disabled at 125 & 150 & 175%)

you can modify you desktop to work at a low resolution
(640 by 480 on my machines- or some cards even allow custom resolutions
to go really low) to see better
try to make the filtering make the pixel dithering disappear or blur

Sound options
keep music volume same or 5 to 10 points above SFX volume (lower the sound)

Section 3

It is a 4 PLAYER GAME - best played with 4 players on the same place,

but if life gets in the way, You can use parsec
to play this game
- make sure to configure the controls in the same fashion - but configure controls one at a time, starting with player 4.
Also - test each player starting with player 4 on their own after the control is configured


Pro-tip from old me - back in the day TMNT manhattan project was a very hard game, i did not use cheat codes to beat it, but did take full advantage of its 2 player capability to do so.

Excellent, i've try it fast with last OB engine and working fine on my PI :)
So cool to have a 16/9 version of this game, it's really excellent, and to have a real 4 player mode with 4 different characters  ;D
The new one from Evil Dead is really an excellent idea and he has cool special move too  ;)

Will you continue to work on it ?
For exemple, to update the new character select screen image like others ?
Or to fix some bugs you've write ?

An other thing that can be fixed, is to release a title screen in 16/9 format too :)
Like the intro movie and some other images ... maybe if i can found some free time i can help for this ;)

I am glad it worked, because it is not optimized AT ALL - it plays well with dual core machines & 8 gb of RAM tho

Yes, bug fixes have to be done, or fix or improve the way the sound works & some of the visual effects.
I welcome anyone that can take a shot a the menu screen & the intros - if i work alone on this , it will be the last thing i have to deal with.
My "strenghts" are with enemy editing (not creating yet) & levels & layering & maybe music (placement)
later on i want to learn what is possible with cutscenes & intros.

You can check the developer notes inside the PAK file - it mentions some things that i cant deal with on my own.
that said....
Do what you can, me & the Darkstalkers fans out there would be grateful
for example
- i would like to have the cutscenes ,intros & the ending be a multilayered thing, made of static images on multiple layers. (characters on the front layers, background elements on the back on multiple layers too, with parallax)
it keeps the feel of the original , but makes for great "panning" & it would be handy for the possible next visual upgrade..
possibilities are endless tho -

they can be replaced with 80's style 2D full fledged animations (like GI-Joe or real ghostbusters)

BONUS POINTS if it ever turns out to have awesome music:

or SFM movies
or live action - if you have cosplay friends & time to kill :D

i feel that the game does not take itself too seriously & neither the OG developers had that attitude.
If you explore videos on youtube of the OG game & its Bonus levels, you will see that it is a bizarre world where anything goes

the game looks about the same as its 4 3 version,  there is some improvements here & there tho -

if there is one thing i regret is NOT making the game a truly 16 by 9 thing -
Originally the resolution was going to be 426 by 240

but the older OG openBOR version of the game  had controller problems (driver conflicts in my system instead)
but would display this correctly on PC.

newer versions that did not have those controller problems, but had problems displaying resolution in full screen (problems with the filtering)

the latest had that issue too - so the game is 240 by 480 - it makes the characters look smaller compared to the Arcade & the original port


for now it will have to be like this -
1 because going back to editing the levels to truly  accommodate 16 by 9 will take some time to do  & is a PAIN
2 Open BOR does not officially support true low res 16 by 9 in full screen(426 by 240) the PC does if you find the right config- BuT.....
3 other OpenBor ports might have problems with that resolution  (i know that the wii version has it , tho i tested with an emulator, not in real console)

TLDR version:

OpenBOR does not support low res 16:9 (426x240) - so characters look smaller than they should

Is Ash using the same gameplay system. Or he use a simple system (less attacks, grabs etc) ?

Also, Ash is a really fitting character, but the art style classes a lot.

I don't know why, but I would rather see one of the character from Sailor Moon by Banpresto, than CVS type sprite.
Even if such a girl would not fit in the game (conceptually)

As it is the system for him is very simple, but it fits him somewhat IMO, because from what you see on the T show & movies, he lacks fighting skill but knows how to improvise - that said i hope i can add something more to him.

Also you can factor in that the game has OG 3 main characters, any 4th one is a guest, & guests (in my head) are only there to provide extra help because the task is so impossible to achieve - (my intention is to give the 4th player more relevance that ever before)

in fact i would like for the guest characters to be only exclusive to player 4 & any additional levels or branches take into account what character was used when beating the main story....

(when you think about it games like this & street fighter 2 look like classical frescoes - when you factor in that pixels where not supposed to be seen & CRT's blur would help dissipate them)

Go nuts, it gives the opportunity to add more levels  - fact is the game has portals, magical elements , the supernatural, heck technically she could be a sailor moon type character or equivalent in that universe, Ghost exterminators, Chosen ones, Mutant martial artists, Terror masked wielders, -
and even then  - even if the art styles don't match, it can be explained kinda sorta what you see in this series:

AFAIK that version is lost forever.

And for improvements;

* Reshade the special guest so he fits with the other three more. Also add Hong Hua back into the game in addition to Jasmin. Some of the enemies also need a reshade.
* The bonus level's penalty being a "feature" is no excuse. Lots of bad elements in games have been "features". See Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric for some instances of bad "features".
 
@ Miru

- i WaNt Hong Hua back in to the game, as it stands the only thing i may be able to do for the next update is to paste her graphics over a "clone" of Jasmine.

-Reshading Ash - i have a good grasp of how to do it , but it is a PAIN for me - as a "test of might" i re-did a zombie character because of reasons, & all it did was give me imsomnia - i like to draw, but drawing with the mouse is truly a pain in the soul.
There is a new artist that has introduced himself recently, & hopefully he can help me with somethings that i would like to add.  that is ifIf he has not been alrady "taken"

The BonUs lev3l fr0m HEll -- it was a miracle that i managed to have the OG "splat" script work at all, so all that is left for me is to embrace its awfulness - besides - there is a workaround to this that is guaranteed to earn you the extra life & its very satisfying to boot - players just have to figure it out on their own

About a sailor, I would think about some kind of zombie hunter girl. Based on a Sailor Moon character, but with custom design.

I still have this idea in my mind because I see so many custom animation have been done for them these days, and have not been used in any game...
I might give it a try and swap Jasmine first, befor to make a custom. I'm just lacking time.
 
could crossover with fighter history because both games are from data east  , of course if possible by the content left out in the openbor ex boss Pinocchio and the bonus and hong hua stages would it be possible to phase a phase just like the caddilac dinosaur in which you run over zombies with the van?

Well, i forgot about adding the pinocchio on the developer notes inside the .pak file.

About this Cadillac & Dinosaurs idea - it is a great excuse - Since i started the project i was looking for a way to make a level featuring - what i now MUST call & everyone should call from now on A stereoptical level.

The Fleisher brothers & their revolutionary animation methods are sort of underrated, & -- i'm going to sound like a big soft fool -- those legendary animators that worked with them where lost to history because of a freaking world war - if there was any way to pay tribute to them is to make reference to their work in any way i can find & i could not think of a way to make a level to do so.

You might recognize this a bit more recently form what Rare did with Killer Instinct in the 90's & that other Dracula video i shared earlier in another post

anywhoo -a C & D zombies level featuring à la Simbad the sailor type effect background would be a great addition to the game - i have been meddling on the beginning stages of experimenting & so far it seems that with my current skill i can only do levels that go in one direction & you can't move back & forth.

Other great news & not so great - I have just thought of the perfect Ending for the Ash character - some clues :

but it would only work 100% if i can find away for Bruce Campbell to participate.

its amazing how much ignorance of openBOR modules there is out there

But i cant stress enough that the backbone of this is BonusJz's work - And nsw25's work on Ash

Just last night I once again witnessed some young friends struggle trough it & it was very satisfying -
the chase scene tho - i did see trouble, Dracula's car is programmed to get away from the player - so when there is many players on the screen, it barely shows - so they did not know what where they after. I don't now if that same problem was present in the 4:3 version

Just wanted to say this is an excellent game. Having Ash from evil dead was an awesome idea, I love it. I do have a question though, how do you do Ash's special moves? I figured out a few of them but I am not sure about the specifics concerning what you need to do exactly to pull them off. From what I can tell he has, This is my boom stick,, a dragon punch like move with his chainsaw, and a couple moves where he uses the necronomicon to summon a flaming pillar and something that looks like an evil spirit that flies towards the enemy. I have done these moves but it was from button mashing to try to figure out the moves for the most part. Can you hook us up with a list of the command inputs to do the special moves? If you can, thanks and thanks for making this awesome version of this game.
