its been about a year since there was an announcement of a remake by "Forever enternainment" - they where also in charge of
a panzer dragoon remake:

and remake for house of the dead:

the only beat them up type game that forever ent. had at the time is something that resembles the new battletoads...
so i hope they don't mess it up and make it a "flash" type deal

last night found the images on searchx and the tweets did not load, and managed to save the image using right click, but you are right @NED, they are soulcalibur 6 images, unfortunately....

that said it is a very good charater creation, and i hope the re-make is at the very least above this level of quality
I almost forgot this Forever ent. news since I didn't took it seriously.
I feel like whatever they do, our fan games will be way better and more fun to play.
I think the remake if it ever exists will be lazy 2D or lazy 3D (even if I hope for quality work)

And for SC6 customs it was abvious to me.
SC games customs use the same faces bases for at least 3-4 games now.
The customisation clothes parts are very easy to recognize too...

PROS: An enhanced version that takes advantage of a newer Openbor build
FIxEs!
no more same players in 4 player mode, better controller mapping, rumble, (thanks to Kratus)
some stuff that would get levels stuck has been fixed, Aestetics restored in the new engine, fixes to music

4 players are now fully functional
Smash brothers type evasion , press block & direction to dodge (Danno)
Continue countdown bug is fixed now
CONS: Some bugs left with Grappler types, now it takes patience, skill, & a bit of luck to beat the game
persistent bugs:
if you ever get stuck in a level - press start- exit, close the engine completely, start it again, choose continue

some characters freeze the game if they "land on their feet" when they have 0 health (very rare), the engine has to be closed completely forcefully - just start again & continue. Don't know if this happens on the newer versions

bugs:
you may have to insist on making the install a bunch of times - works in newer androids
this version probably does not work with older Android systems
after the install it takes about a minute to load

For Older Android models
install & run this APK first,
ChronoCrash
after that, navigate you Android's files & place the .pak file from the desired game in the PAKS folder that is created after running OpenBor & run openbor again , you should see the game's title in the list

For New Android models
first download this file:
extract the apk file and run it, this will create the PAKS folder
if you navigate your files in your android device, look for a folder called PAKS
download any of the windows versions, extract and take the .pak file & place it in the PAKS folder in your android device
run openbor again , you should see the game's title in the list

video options recommendations:
for gameplay -

display mode - full
video backend - SDL (keeps music syncronised better)
scale - automatic
hardware filter - bilinear
software filter - 16bit simple (it can be disabled with custom resolution)
fullscreen type - preserve aspect ratio

its better to create a custom resolution with you video card software
480 by 240 to keep the game at top speed


for capturing & editing later:
display mode - window
video backend - SDL (keeps music syncronised better)
scale - 100%
hardware filter - disabled
software filter - disabled

you can modify you desktop to work at a low resolution
(640 by 480 on my machines) to see better.
any filtering to give the game a CRT "blur" can be added during
video editing (this helps with fake transparency tricks the game has)

for capturing and less video filter edit work:

display mode - window
video backend - SDL (keeps music syncronised better)
scale - 125% or more
hardware filter - bilinear
software filter - 16 bit simple 2X (disabled at 125 & 150 & 175%)

you can modify you desktop to work at a low resolution
(640 by 480 on my machines- or some cards even allow custom resolutions
to go really low) to see better
try to make the filtering make the pixel dithering disappear or blur

Sound options
keep music volume same or 5 to 10 points above SFX volume (lower the sound)

Section 3

It is a 4 PLAYER GAME - best played with 4 players on the same place,

but if life gets in the way, You can use parsec
to play this game
- make sure to configure the controls in the same fashion - but configure controls one at a time, starting with player 4.
Also - test each player starting with player 4 on their own after the control is configured


Pro-tip from old me - back in the day TMNT manhattan project was a very hard game, i did not use cheat codes to beat it, but did take full advantage of its 2 player capability to do so.

It frustrates me to no end how none of the Night Slashers mods have given the game a horror-themed playable character. I have actually found several different mods for this game along with the one mentioned here, but they only add generic anime/Walmart-brand Street Fighter characters. Yes, Ash from Evil Dead is here, but personally, I really don't like Bruce Campbell. Rick from Splatterhouse and/or Ella from Mugen would fight much better with the horror setting. Are there ANY versions that add proper horror characters?!

Good luck with that. For whatever reason, this game is right up there with Final Fight as a target for nonsensical reworks.

I'd recommend you try taking up the mantle yourself and seeing what you could do with it. That's why this forum exists.

At this point, I just wish someone would add something horror related to NS. The playable characters that are currently there don't even look like they belong in the same game as the horror visuals.

Agreed.

Yeah! There are so many characters that would fit the games theme like a glove. Hell, I've seen some good Freddy Krueger sprites in Mugen.
Hopefully someone will find the time.

Looks great. This type could be a boss than joins you when defeated, like happens with some characters in golden axe 3. Maybe he was in berserk state because of the curse and when regaining sense after being defeated, joins the team to try to lift his curse. Or just a self conscious werewolf that wants to fight evil, like John talbain

The presence of Ash is cool, but already one step in a direction I don't really lik (personnal tastes)
What I like in NS, is the fact very different achetypes of characters (not really connected to horror themes) will meet to fight zombies, werewolves, vampires, mad scientist, Frankenstein... ----> It is fun! gory and entertaining.

Making it a "serious" gore/Horror character with Ash+Freddy+M.Myers+Pinface etc would spoil everything.
Such a horror theme would be "another" game. Not really NS.

Trust me, as a spriter, and JUST a spriter, I can tell you it's possible to code a game from starting with zero knowledge.
At least a very decent one.
Also we have a chance to have a very helpful community, where many skilled creators can explain stuffs so YOU can create/edit you own game.
About the "free time" problem, it depends where you put your free time.
Nothing more pleasing to see your project updating step by step as you add content to it. Trust me.
As soon as you started you perhaps feel like puting some time into YOUR project instead of watching Netflix, sports, or whatever consume the average modern people time.

2 possible ways (among many other certainly)

-1 Start to code by yourself.

-2 Wait for 10-20 years for your perfect game to be done by someone as a coincidence. (or not)

As a 16bits sprites, it will certainly need a scalling to match NS characters. (Rotsprite ;) )
Again, one of my big regrets is to have not been able to complete the custom character sprites I was up to make for your version ^^;

i have added lots of notes all over the 21C download with some tips and instructions on how some characters where imported.

Lifeoffinale (the guy who made the japanese variant - rebalance) seemed to have plans to add rick, i told him that the sprite would need to change to match the NS art style a bit more... and suggested that rick be an unlockable.

However - having rick in game would really need to take the 21C game in a whole other direction, 21C has the capacity to add custom levels to each and every charater it has, so much so that even the cinemas can reflect the actual players in play, but to make it "right" it takes an immense amount of work,
music has to be made to match the "splatterized" levels, the backgrounds may have to have some changes, enemies might have to be made or "corrupted"
and some of the current issues that the new engine introduced have to be corrected with script, especially grapples.

so, when it comes to those issues, i suggest that it would be easier to do this stuff in @danno 's version or a avariant of it, since his version would be free of the grapple troubles - back some months ago i told him of some kind of plan for Ash, but my work with the right to left sprites was so awful , that i never even shared samples.

only thing i can do if you guys want to the rick thing, is share some music files i have collected and some level and "monster corruption" ideas-

So many versions.
Even if they are interesting, I suppose I'll stick to the only stable and "complete" one. original NSX mod.
I like some of the new characters but the coding us sometimes weird and the gameplay not always smooth...
Also, I don't want to invest time in games that can crash any second ^^;

I'll stick to NSX and wait for a possible comeback of Danno's version in the future.
And if it never happens, I might give a try in customiting original NSX with my custom character for personal / private use.

I don't code.
And particularly don't work with other creators' advanced mechanics/systems.
Sure I can make content, custom characters, sprites etc, But I'm more picky now, because my time is limited, and I don't want to be involved in creators projects that will disapear in nowhere in few months, or similar.

So, if someone do what you say here and make this version you're talking about stable, interesting, compatible, complete etc, I'll gladly consider making some content when I have time for it.

But I don't think someone is up to make it. I mean, seriously and soon enough.

it would take others to check and test for the trickier parts, especially it they had lots of experience coding using the old engine.
some optimization tricks might be needed....

this is good, i think the "retrofit" project should be able to allow for a github type deal, at the same time it allows for insights without spoiling anything, since 21C and rebalance should be well beyond spoilers at this point - those insights could serve the new engine upgrade later on...

From my own point of view.

It's possible, and you would have the support of community, but you should certainly create a thread for that.
Because the "NS + variations" thread is a mess to understand and follow.
Make it easy for any skilled creator to reach the build you're working on.
Post videos + logfile every time you cannot fix a problem by yourself.

It would definitely help.
