Federated Logins (New Registration)

ChronoCrash supports federated logins. This means you can shortcut the login process by authenticating with your account on one or more of these platforms.

First Time Registration

If you don't have an account with ChronoCrash, you can register normally, or register with supported platform in a few seconds.

social_login_b0.png
  1. At the registration prompt, you will find a list of supported platforms. Click on the platform account you want to use.
    social_login_b1.png

  2. If you are not already logged into your platform's account, it will ask you to do so. Depending on the platform, it may also ask that you authorize ChronoCrash to use your platform's sign in. You must agree to do so. Otherwise, skip to the next step.
    social_login_b2.png

  3. ChronoCrash will ask you to enter a user name for the forum. You will also need to agree to our terms of service and policy. When you're ready, click Register.
    social_login_b3.png

  4. You are now registered at the forum with full member privileges, using the associated platform account to log in.

Once registered, you may associate additional platform accounts if you wish. See here for details.

Add Resources (Files to Download)

The following is a guide to using the ChronoCrash Resource Manager. Before uploading game modules, make sure to read the following:

  1. Prepare your file to upload. Maximum single file size is 450MB, but you may add multiple files per resource. If you need to upload larger items, create a split archive. The recommended volume size is 400MB. You may upload any one of the following file types:
    • zip
    • txt
    • pdf
    • png
    • jpg
    • jpeg
    • jpe
    • gif
    • psd
    • tif
    • rar (recommended)
    • dmg
    • gz
    • apk
  2. Click Resources.
    1678369404029.png

  3. Click Add resource.
    1678369505638.png

  4. The forum will ask which category to place the new resource. Click on the appropriate category.
    1678369566672.png

  5. Fill out the Add Resourcefields.
    1. Title: Name of the resource.
    2. Tag Line: Short (one sentence) description of the resource that appears in list views. Write something quick and catchy - you can use up to 100 characters.
    3. Type: The resource file. See next step for details.
    4. Version Number: Optional version number for the resource. If you leave this blank, it defaults to the current date.
    5. Description: Tell us about the resource, with pictures and videos if you have them. This field works exactly like a forum post.
    6. Additional information URL: Link to an informational or promotional website about the resource. If populated, it appears as a More Information button in the download page.
      1678369635428.png
    7. Alternative support URL: Link to an FAQ thread, a wiki, or a similar site that provides technical information about the resource. If populated, appears as Get Support button in the download page.
      1678369717113.png

    8. Upload a new icon: Small icon that displays in list views. Recommended image size is 96*96 pixels.
  6. Add the resource file using type. You have several options:
    1. Uploaded Files: Upload files to ChronoCrash server. Click Attach Files. The file browser dialog opens. Select your file, and it will start uploading. When the upload completes, you can save the resource. You can attach multiple files if needed.
      1678369838389.png

    2. External download URL: Link to an external file host. Note due to proliferation of unreliability and malware inserts by third party hosts, there is a soft ban on external links for free downloads. Any external links are subject to removal without notice.
    3. External purchase: If your resource is behind a paywall such as GameJolt or Steam, enter the price and type of currency, then place place the URL to your purchase page here.
    4. Does not have a file: Use this option if your resource is a tutorial or an example without downloads. Otherwise avoid using this option as it breaks the download interface users expect. Empty resources are subject to periodic removal.
  7. Once you provide a URL or file and all fields are filled out, click Save.
    1678370202681.png
  8. The resource is now available for download. It will appear in the Resources area, on the front page Latest Resources tag, and in all what's new lists.
    1678370524095.png
  9. If you have a discussion thread about the resource, you can link it to the download page. Open the discussion thread (make sure you are on the first page) and copy its URL.
  10. In the resource page, click the options ellipsis, and select Change discussion thread.
    1678370602325.png

  11. Paste the thread URL into Change discussion thread dialog, and click Save.
    1678370673006.png

  12. There is now a Join Discussion button in your resource download page leading to the discussion thread. Additionally, the discussion thread now contains a Download link, and current version number is added to the thread's title.

Posting Question Threads

When you are looking for help, it may be a good idea to post your topic as a question thread. Some categories (like help and advice) are question format only. In those cases, you don't need to do anything at all. Question threads are mostly like a normal discussion, but they add a couple of helpful features specifically for encouraging and documenting the best answers. To create a question thread, start up a thread normally, and look for a Question Tab above the text box (or just post in a question only category).

1633285675513.png

Click the Question Tab, type your question, and post. This turns your thread into a question. When the thread attracts some replies, choose the best solution and click the check mark next to it. You can always change your mind and choose a different one later. Members can up-vote or down-vote answers by clicking on the arrows. Don't get personal with votes - these are in place to suggest the best answer.

Choosing an answer places it just below your question in the thread, and also marks the thread solved.

Mention Alerts

As of 2021-12-21, the forum mention system can (and does) send emails to a member that is mentioned with a tag (ex: @DCurrent), or quoted. Alerting options are located in your Account Preferences:

    social_login_2.png
  5. If you are not already logged into your platform's account, it will ask you to do so. Otherwise, skip to the next step.
    social_login_4.png
  6. Enter your existing ChronoCrash forum account password. When ready, press Associate to confirm.
    social_login_3.png
  7. The account is associated. You can now use the selected platform to log in at ChronoCrash. Repeat the same steps if you want to associate additional platforms.

Posting Code Samples

As we are a support and development community, it is vitally important you post code or text samples in a readable format. The forum is equipped to display a dizzying number of coding languages.

Code Blocks

To post a block of code, click more options, then click code.

1674662318563.png

1674662414602.png

The code window will open. Paste your text or script into the box. Use the Language drop-down to select the code format. If you are posting a text sample (ex. from a model sheet), then choose General Code. If you are posting script, then choose C. Alternatively, you can select Rich Code. Rich Code is formatted as General Code, but lets you add colors and other text effects.

1674662484077.png

When you are done, press Continue. Your code is pasted into the post with code tags. ChronoCrash will present the code in a much more readable block. To compare, this is what a bit of script looks like pasted without code tags:

void example_function()
{
char test_text = "Hello world!";
log("\n " + test_text);
}

The same script with code tags:

C:
void example_function()
{
     char test_text = "Hello world!";
     log("\n " + test_text);
}

Inline Code

You can insert some code as part of normal post text. This works like other formatting options such as bold or italics. Highlight the portion you want to format as inline code, then choose inline code. Inline code looks like this.
