Seeing if I can jump start the Outdoors area a bit. Was going through some old videos and found these:

This is on the Russel Fork, a class V river in the heart of Appalachia. My friend Derek had the camera, he's in the red kayak, I'm in the black..

Same day, taking on a series of rapids named "Twenty Stitches". Got my a** kicked, but at least it didn't live up to the name!

Here's some highlights from a high water flood on the Elkhorn.

Funny how in video all the rapids, hills and such look a lot smaller and tamer (we call it "GoPro bravery") - but when you are face to face with them the real scale becomes apparent. It's an awesome thrill ride! I don't take video as much, but I'm still on the water all the time. Just did a big race on the Cumberland two weeks ago. Any of you guys paddle?

How many kayak rolls can you do in a minute? Just checked the world record and it's 26, I reckon you can get very close to that, would make a pretty cool video but if you do attempt a personal best please don't do it unsupervised.  ;)

danno,

26 in a minute is pretty nuts. I'm guessing that guy was doing back deck rolls. Hard to learn but crazy fast. My roll is the C to C. I couldn't touch that number on my best day, and right now I'm nursing a torn muscle in my right shoulder.

Should have skipped the Cumberland race, but I just couldn't stay away, and there's another in October I want to be ready for. Still... it's an interesting idea. Might head to my favorite training spot and find out!

Pretty cool, but be careful Damon

personally i'm not in a position to do fun things, unless there are fail-safes to deal with any issues that may arise from having too much of it...

regarding footage & perceptions...

I used to work in an Amusement park, & would dress like a "civilian" during my breaks so i could ride the rollercoasters (they had 3)
almost every day, and to date , i have never seen a video or simulation chamber that can even give me the slight feeling of speed, but....

this weird phenomenon happens with some games....

i have noticed games that really give you a slight feeling of speed & "danger", but others that do not.

for example i have noticed that people "freak" a little,  twist their heads or try to look around corners playing Doom, or Star Fox in the SNES (with CRT screen)
but more realistic games or later Star Foxes do not give you that...
Same with Ridge racer 64, i have been told that it "feels" faster than Forza on the XBONE.

The closest that i have experienced rapids is the flooded streets on my old youth "working" place (i dont know why we would swim on that crap)
