I wanted to have a demo before I started another thread for this mod, but alas I have been too busy for this OpenBoR stuff lately.

Much is still unchanged in the stages, like the shadows on the lights.
I've been mainly working on importing the updated weapon script and fixing enemy AI etc.

Once I update this stuff I was going to release a small demo because I need some help getting the directional shooting to work properly.

I also kinda regret going to 480x272 res, haven't decided how much play area I'll have at the bottom of the screen.
I might add black at the bottom and reserve for it for player 2's HUD in case I eventually add 2 players.
Some quick previews -

UPDATE: nedflandeurse has filled the request to fix the player sprites, so that's one thing sorted.

Many thanks! to ned for this help

you can easily modify that hud to fit entire 480 area.HEre's the idea, didnt do all of them just floor and score.

Cool, thanks for showing me how it looks extended like this.

Hadn't decided if I was going to change it like this, I wanted to keep the hud just like the original game.
It looked great originally at 320 res.  Some other fullscreen shots from the original suffered too, like the title screens etc.

I was probably just going to fill the black with that green colour, and maybe add some detail or use it for ammo count like Doom mod, if I add extra weapons like grenades and rocket/grenade launchers etc.

I also have this one I made to add somewhere.

Was thinking it might count as armor points, and have it's own health that might eventually go up there too, but I still haven't worked that one out yet for doom mod either.

Edit: I updated the first post with the new and old sprites for comparison.

@Dakangel - Cool, thanks it helps to see this, but I think I like the first frame the best, which is how I probably will do it. I personally prefer it, and it also saves redoing all the coords in the script.  ;)

Otherwise the one with both players at the top would work.  I'm not too worried thou, player 2 would just be a novelty anyway.

cool this is the same style as that doom mod which never got released
Lol, maybe one day... :(

Doom is my mod too, I'm also still working on Doom (check my sig), Wolf3d mod is being done on the side.
I almost had a demo, but I got stuck with compatibility issues with scripts for a while, among other problems.

Wolf3d MOD using the same scripts as Doom, MatMan who wrote the scripts, updated them for me recently, so I have both mods to update with these scripts and others before either gets a demo.

Doom has a lot more issues to sort out too, and I decided to update the sprites, so I have to offset all my sprites again (like thousands of them).  So Wolf3D might get a demo sooner because of this and the stages are faster to make.

Anyhow not promising something to we can play soon, but I'm trying to get a demo sorted for Wolf3d because I need some help/advice with the same things in both mods.

thats genious my freind i thought you were the same guy that made the doom mod was jus make sureing it was happening still love your work i hope you do the same for blood and duke nukem and shadow warrior that would be epic keep up the awesome mods

NP, I'm glad to help where I can help.
Spriting and sprite editing is my only real skill for mods  :)

Not true Ned!

You're doing some pretty cool stuff with your mod.
I struggle with my own fighting/beat em up mods just trying to get moves and combos to work properly, let alone slams etc.

You know Ned, you could make some deals such as offering spriting in exchange of codes or modding stuffs ;)

Come on BesTie, get off your lazy but and give me some Doom. I got an itch that only Pinkie can scratch, and while your at it some Wolfenstein wouldn't be bad either.

@ A.D - I'm toiling every day and night on doom as well as wolf3d lately ;)

There will at least be a 'private' release soon.

There is some stages planned in DOOM mod that will use sprites from BLOOD.  But I never played that game enough to make an entire game from it.  In fact, BLOOD and SHADOW WARRIORS are two games I really need to clock one day. (never had copies back in the day)

I might still add some 'secret chars' Duke3d is one of them - they were previously removed in newer versions because the weapon scripts does not support other models.  Secret chars will probably be 'cheat' chars that have their own set of weapons.

Duke has size issues thou, he needs to be 1.5 scale to suit the mod, but this looks bad.
I had some sprites of him that were originally adapted for original DOOM, but these animate very badly.

I would do a Duke MOD if I had someone else working with me to make stages, main thing slowing me down getting doom done.  Keep having to redo old assets to suit new ones etc.  Duke3d is not a game I have great love for thou, the original EGA DOS game was the one I remember best.  I think I would make a 2D platform game from Duke sprites, instead of 2.5d like Doom and wolf.

Nah, you mean the storyline would suit openbor mod?

I honestly never liked the FPS duke games, they made duke lame, I kinda hated it back in the day. It felt like half the 'features' of the game were stolen ideas from DOOM mods.  For example Evil dead quotes (because of popular evil dead mod for doom) Naked girls (because of popular 'Porno' Doom mods.)

Anything people had wanted from Doom they added to Duke, they did the same with Rise Of The Triad, but it was more original IMO.

...Rise of the Triad is another one that would be fun to make 2D in OpenBOR.

Ah I was thinking of the recent FPS.  Looks pretty cool, I kinda like the old sprites thou.

EDIT: Have you seen this?
http://hrp.duke4.net/media.php

Anyhow I've had the idea for a tiny Duke mod for a while, because I'm not a fan and don't know the games well, I feel I cant do it justice.  My plan thou was to create a demo mod that would have all the assets to make the game.  It would have playable duke, some enemies and a stage or two.  I kinda started on this already, eventually I'll finish this off and release it, maybe someone will take it from there. There is only sprites for duke holding one weapon thou.

Original idea of Doom mod was to build it like an engine and you could use it as a base for any similar games.  For example when the mod is done I could easily make an alt version using N64 sprites + music.
Also I kept naming conventions of original doom, this way it's easy to add your favorite custom sprites, music sfx etc.

For example there is many music packs made for the Doom ports like Doomsday engine, the one I use is the closest to the original music.  But you'll be able to extract the other packs and overwrite the current music if you prefer.

It's that duke nukem side scrolling game that came out in 2002. It's called Duke Nukem Manhattan Project. Which you can get it on XBox Live or Steam.
