Complete [DEMO-BOR] Avengers United Battle Force

yes, feedbacks! Lets go:
I played it for a bit on my Android. Tried Thor, Emma and Quicksilver. I found it difficult to "discover" the special attacks commands, as they are different for each character, but that's not really a problem. It was frustrating trying to find a way for Thor to throw his hammer. He can't do that, right? LOL
But the game have a manual folder or (brazilmugenteam.com/avengers have other) and the moves are almost all the same for all chars: QCF+A or D,U+A. About Thor...yes, he doesn't throws the hammer saddly. I think I will give it to him on the next version.

Speaking of commands, blocking as [down+S] is weird. Might need more time to get used to it. And there are a lot of Gunner enemies (maybe too many!) so it seems very important to block.

Is Ironman's main palete correct? I don't remember seeing him in Orange and Black armor - at least it's not his most iconic palete...

Speaking of colors, I had a hard time seeing my MP bar. When filling up, it's color is very similar to the HUD's.

Question: is this the roster right at the start of the game, or do you begin with only 4 or 5 chars until you unlock the others?
No, the starting roster will be smaller (Emma, for example, won't be avaliable right from the start). People will be unlocked in each stage, kinda like Zvitor's game. But some people will be unlocked only in certain stages and, thanks to branches, you will need to play all the branches to get all the chars.

I have a lot of little comments, but I'll stick with one for now: Blocking is way too awkward. By using the default single button press breakaway special with blocking mapped to an unintuitive combo command and then crowding the screen, you overemphasize use of the breakout special. That's not really strategic or fun.

If you insist on having a "breakout special" at all (The Avengers Arcade didn't have it and didn't need it), map it to A+J and use the Special key for blocking. In case you aren't aware, the engine can do this for you with the ajspecial command.

If you have a lot of little comments, please share your thoughts. I remember I sent you the beta but you never took a look at it :)

Final Fight do have a button for breakeout special and this never was a problem to me. Because you loose life and the damage is not that good. On the game, the breakout does almost the same damage of a single attack (about 15 points) and your life drains fast if you spamming it.

About the block command, there are two reasons for that - one is good and one is bad.
The good one is if I set it to A+J, its very hard to pull it on Android devices, and I played it a lot on mobile.
The bad is one...a bug. I remember I set it to A+J and even I setting a HP usage or put a script on the char, Hawkeye ALWAYS JUMPS when he perform it. I tried to use @CMD STOP, @CMD BEIDLE and even setting all his velocities to 0...no good, he STILL jumps, doing the IDLE animation.

So, if I can find a solution to it, I could use it. Or, at least, I could map to Back+S, but I always thought that is too hard to pull this command.

didnt liked classic ironman pallet to war machine and no classic ironman pallet to ironman.
Ironman is a problem: he has MANY CLASSIC palletes (armors, in case). On the game, I will limit all the chars to 4 palletes, because pallete 5 is Freeze palette and pallete 6 is poison pallete. But Ironman do have one of his classical palletes (its Artemis, if I am not wrong).

I haven't included classic Iron Man palette on Warmachine to not let the user use Ironman and Warmachine with almost the same color. That was a point I worked a lot: I tried to include very different palletes from each other.  Its a personal taste of mine.

Another point where I took a special care: the palletes aren't random, all palletes are real uniforms. Captain America's white costume, for example, comes from Hate Monger, Quicksilver has his father costume, Hawkeye have his Dark Avengers costume (the one I most like) and so on.

Yeah, I knew about it but was already playing on my mobile... :P
I ended up watching the "How to Play" (couple of typos there), and figured everything out. You just have to test the combinations for each character. The only thing I still think is really unusual is the Avenger Power. Will need some time to get used to this...

Why don't you use A2 button for Block or Breakout move? Like in Knights n Dragons? Do you have anything against 4 buttons? I understand the nostalgia, but most joysticks since SNES come with the 4 buttons "cross" design.

Sidebar: one thing I did with zvitor's mod was map special attacks to A2, A3, A4 buttons for every playable character. I did it for my nephew, so he could play it easier but I play mostly on android, and this makes it easier to pull off some moves that the touch screen won't let you do. It does make a couple of characters really cheap to play with :P

Well, maybe unusual is not the word... remember Akuma's secret move in StreetFighter? I feel like I'm trying to do that. I probably just got lazy (er) over the years and any command with more than two buttons gets me tired. :P
 
It's a tough choice, they are all nice to play, for me that's what is great about this type of mod, having choice of characters.  Without one necessarily being the best.  (the poll seems to reflect that so far)


The button input may seem difficult at first just because you don't get much chance to try them out at first with the enemies shooting at you.  Maybe you could add training / danger room with a punching bag to the demo, just so people can test out moves first.

-Maybe, but she turns as powerful as hulk on diamond mode (and her life and MP raises too), so I think its fair.
Anyway, I will add an ultra on her normal form. She was intended to be quite different by the author (Ens23) but the way she was planned to his game doesn't works on a beat em up game (all supers covers all screen and hits all the enemies)

- I got the same bugs with Emma (block, respawn).  I also think her diamond form is overrated, but knockback resistance is very worthwhile. I think her D+U special needs a boost, even if just visually (like a hitspark), or increasing Z-range (see below). Speaking of visuals, I love esn23's work, but the "stand" sprite is awkward. Maybe after a wait (time with no buttons pressed) she'd assume that pose, but for someone who was just running and throwing punches... :/

- I always complain about Z-range of attacks, on every game, so don't take it personally. There are times when you must align with the target with such precision that it gets frustrating. Maybe it's because I'm playing on Android and touch devices are not very precise (or because newer games connect from so far away - Lara Croft jumping on ledges. 'nuff said), but sometimes bullets can hit you while your roundhouse kick couldn't. It's specially bad when you need to input Down or Up to activate specials and miss the alignment. Anyway, it may be I'm just a bad player... :P

- Charge attack (hold Attack buttons for 3 sec and release) are terrible to pull off. If only they worked like in Megaman (where you can move and jump around). But I know, it's not easy to do that in OpenBor.

- regarding the poll, I'm not sure what to answer. Do you mean: the one I LIKE best, the strongest, the most overpowered, the most fun, the one that doesn't need to be updated, the most faithful to the comics? Because I think Hulk is super good - maybe even cheap! - but he's not my favorite, though I had fun... I don't mean to say I want him nerfed, it's just hard to judge others when he's in the picture. ;)

Maybe I can reduce some of the shooters, but I don't know thanks to two things - first, to me, makes no sense to send low level hand-to-hand minions to stop someone like Hulk or Captain America, they need to be, at least, armed with something. Second, I am known for making hard games (they calls this Ilu Style, lol) so expect having hard times.

The lack of block in diamond mode seams to be a OpenBOR bug. On her case, its not a big deal because you don't need to block when she is on that mode. But its still a bug, I will report it for the coders.

Why do you think its overrated? you mean its cheap or underrated like "people doesn't understand how good it is"?

This is something which bothers me too. I haven't found the right Z values for the moves, I opened many mods and each mod uses different values for this. I don't want to make the move to hit only on the same line. But touch devices have part of the guilty: they are awful bad for that. The game is way harder on mobile than on pc.

oh, I hate that too! The engine seams to not always understand the command, there is nothing I can do about it. For example, with Hawkeye, let him do shake 3 times while idle. For captain america, if you hold the attack button while do Avengers Power, most of times he would do the move after the Avenger power.

The one you like best, judging all those factors. I would be fair to talk about Hulk (or Wolverine) because they are my favorite chars. Hulk get a special attention because, for me, they never made Hulk as powered as he is in any game. The guy is, essentially, cheap.
 
Yeah the game is tough, but that's a good thing.  Being shot is penalty for standing still.

Emma might need 'modelflag' setting in diamond form-

0 = Animation and weaponlist are copied
1 = Animation aren't copied but weaponlist are still copied
3 = Animation and weaponlost aren't copied
~Use this with weapon models of course
 
Beastie, my block is already scripted with that. She does the animation, but the block doesn't take effect.
modelflag had no effect.

now I remember: I changed Emma frost name by script. Dunno why, when she respawn in diamdon form, the script doesn works.
Maybe I will change her weaponloss to 2, so she will revert back when she dies, not only on continue.

Fixed.

btw, I will map block to attack2, it will make it easier to get along with.
