Golden Axe death scream

I think it is no coincidence.
I have understood that there are banks of sounds, screams, explosions etc ...
they use in movies and video games.

I just watched that video the other day too!  That's how I first noticed that death scream actually.
I can't believe I never noticed this actor was in all those movies - he's sort of like the Pat Roach (see Indy movies) for Arnold.

Always remembered him from Blade Runner and Conan, but never noticed some of those smaller roles he's had.

Regarding Golden Axe samples, that kind of sample stealing is why some older games sfx were so cool.  Can't get away with this nowadays. ;)

But nothing will ever top the Wilhelm Scream - you've heard it in Star Wars, Indiana Jones, LOTR and a bunch of others.  I haven't seen it used in a game, but hundreds of movies.  Bloodbane and I did put it in our D&D game:)
It's perfect for games, because it cuts right through the music and sound FX and you can hear it clearly.

Here's a great montage showing the Wilhelm scream through 50 years of movies:

Hahaha, and I thought that developers as Sega's were more professional!
Very interesting, I didn't know about the Wilhelm Scream and hearing it in a row in so different movies sounds hilarious. A sound effect I hear often, in commercials, documentaries and movies, is the rusty gate at 4:02, here is the game where I encountered it for the first time.

There is an equivalent low pitched Wilhelm Scream for monsters (it isn't just the Wilhelm Scream low pitched!), but I can't point it out now.

Yeah I almost posted wilhelm scream too, but most know about that one these days.  I always add it to mods and other games too :)

Think I know the monster one you mean, it's a low pitched recording of a bear roar, it gets used very often.
Homer Simpson's right, Bears are scarrey!

Another sample you used to hear a lot in the mid/late 90s was the classic 'fireball' sound effect that was overused in tons of tv shows.  It is the same sample used in DOOM II for the final boss when he spawns enemies.

From DOOM wiki
The launch sound of the spawn cube (DSBOSPIT) comes from Sound Ideas' General series sound library: Disc 6015, track 28-1: "Fire,Ball - Impact and large fire burst, rumble."[1] It is a very widely used sound effect that has also been used in several movies (such as Dragonheart) television series (for example, ReBoot and Xena: Warrior Princess) and documentaries (like The Hawking Paradox from BBC Horizon).

I am 70% positive it's that sound effect, used in sci-fi high budget movies. The last one I mention (I promise) is the automatic door at 6:07, I hear it everywhere, unfortunately the music covers it. Looks like doorways are my weak spot, I have to avoid them and pass through walls instead before I start to hear these sound effects in real life too!

About the fireball, are you referring to this?
I don't recall it, it never haunted me like the others I mentioned above.
Ubiquitous sound effect "kishabaff" (more common than Wilhelm scream??)

Yeah that's the fireball sound. :)  I'd have to agree it's probably more common than Wilhelm scream, except this sample is not just overused, it's badly used.  In DOOM II it sounded perfect for the boss.  When I hear it in TV shows it always sounds lame and out of place, it's very unrealistic.  But it's a great cartoon sound effect.

I can think of a few classic monster sounds in my head, but I can't think of an example to find them.

That door sounds similar the lifts or doors in DOOM, probably sourced from the same sample.  Often they'll mix different sounds together, change pitch etc.  They did this in doom to make the more unique samples.

The last one I mention (I promise)
No keep mentioning them if you know some more, it's an interesting subject.  I've always had an interest in the foley and music from movies, games etc.

Gladly, but now I don't remember anything, I'll mention when it's the case. I just heard the rusty gate (used for a school's door!?) in Simpson's 2nd episode 23rd season and smiled thinking about this topic. This fireball effect has a He-Man feel to it.

Tongue in cheek:  can I mention the basic openbor effects?

I played only a Rayman episode and it was for the N64 but ten years ago, I don't remember if the squeaky gate was featured there as well, but I doubt. The sound I mentioned (you can hear it on that youtube clip) can be found at the garden maze of Castlevania 64.
