So I did a thing. I've meant to buy us a premium forum software for a long time, but could never justify it. As of today, I finally got sick of Simple Machines Forum acting up and bought us a shiny new Xenforo license. It took some time to get set up, but all active members posts and PMs are imported.

As part of the switch over, I deleted any accounts that A) never posted, and B) had no activity in the last 90 days. That got rid of a monumental amount of spam accounts.

The only thing I couldn't import directly are the downloads. I did however purchase the Resource Manager module. You'll find it far, FAR more powerful than our old download system. It even has provision to link paid content for you commercial creators. Over time I'll work on getting existing downloads migrated from the other forum. If any any of you are so inclined to upload items you have, that would be a great help.

Over the next couple of weeks I'll be working on appearances and such as we get settled in. Please let me know if you have any issues.

PS: One last thing. With the forum, the Wiki, and soon to be the engine all making a new start, I've decided to try and leave the baggage behind too. All bans, warnings, mutes, etc. are turned off as of now.

Strange, I don't have any problem. All my recent messages with @KratusGH doing dev work are in place, and so are all the older conversations. I'll dig through the database and see if the messages are there.

@nsw25,

If it turns out they didn't import and I can't get them to, I can always do a raw dump of conversations straight out of the old DB tables and send them to you in a .zip file. Won't be pretty, but you'll have your information.

yeah thatll be helpfull, I didnt save all the useful stuff and i would always go back to the messages if there was something i ever wanted to go over again.
i have all my olds pm so, it seems that only some users have this problem

From what I saw:
+ I have all my messages too

- the topic reply notification system isn't working, as i got replies on topics I watch but received no email

- the software uses some proprietary codes like MEDIA instead of the common YouTube tag and this affect the user experience a lot, specially when someone post at multiple places at the same time.

From my experience, this makes people stop visiting that place, because they need to edit all the ready content and it's take time (and it's a pain to do on mobile, and time is money.

I hope it's possible, at least, to get the old YouTube link automatic parser back

About the PM thing, that turned out to be a fairly easy mystery. If you didn't check the "Save in outbox" when sending, SMF marks them deleted. They are still in the database table, but don't show in the forum. Additionally, the importer ignores them, and I can't do anything to change that.

Fortunately getting sent messages is no big deal. I can dump them into an excel sheet or word document by request. It's ugly, but readable. Getting back received messages is a lot harder, because there's no straight forward received table. I'd have to reverse engineer the old software some and work up a query for that.

O Ilusionista,

I'll have to look into this, it's probably a switch somewhere.

It does have a proprietary processor, but that's for uploading content. Like I wrote above, YouTube works fine, and so do other video formats (SMF only accepted YouTube and it required a plugin I kept having to mess with in the background). You don't use tags, just put the video link in your post and it plays. Well - you DO use tags, but the forum inserts them for you automatically. See example:

Just to add onto above, I'm working on an auto replace to remove all of the [YouTube] tags already in the forum. That will insta-fix existing video links.

Edit: Done. If I missed any, just edit the post manually and remove any YouTube tags. The forum will auto insert correct tags and video should appear.

Another thing I noted: not even links are automatically parsed as they are where before

Edit: thanks for fixing YouTube links

@O Ilusionista,

Would you mind explaining this? I'm not sure what you mean, but if you show me an example I can probably fix it with same technique I used for YouTube tags.

@machok

It's not just a new look, I replaced the entire forum because the old one kept having issues and we outgrew it. That's why your bookmarks don't work. It does have a much better search engine so you should be able to find stuff easier now.

What script link is broken? Point out the specific post and maybe I can fix it.

Script index by BeasTie, can't open all of them

and maybe I'm still not used with the new search engine because I keep getting no result found
