Personal openBOR Rushing Beat/Rival Turf project

Here's an edit of the Allan Cole character.  This is my attempt to make him look less 1940s and more 1990s.  Let me hear you guys feedback on the frayed cargo shorts and sock less boots?

He looks more badguy this way.
But I think there is still the oldies feeling... Perhaps the hat or something?

Hmmm...I think you're right, I hate to get rid of that newsbie but it really doesn't fit.  I'm thinking a ball cap cocked to the side or one of these:

I had one when I was a kid and if it was good enough for the prince...

indeed, I like it more this way

What way?

Hey GlassJawBoxer. I worked on the game over the weekend. I finished Norton and I'm currently working on Ozzie. I  made 2 of the basic enemies as well. Just to keep you updated. The new female enemy looks good! The Rushing Beat series desperately needed a female enemy.

looks pretty good!
because the snes Final Fight was a dissapointment, when with my friend we rented beat'em ups, we always rented Super Double Dragon and Rival Turf, and after FF2 and Brawl Brothers. The code to access to the japanese version of Brawl Brothers was amazing!!
I hope you keep the japanese names and keep the "black Ozzie Nelson" as a palette, I mean, to respect the author's visions of the characters.

Also played the 64th on arcade. And it will be great if you keep the old fashion look, you know, nowadays there's still people wearing retro  ;D
and to keep the hat, as is the disctintive point of Cole.

(fun fact, you cn see both of them on the prototype game Quimera Beast on the mankind stage lol)

I'm pretty sure, the sprite can look more 90 ish without major editing.
It will save you time and more.

Just try other concepts perhaps only head/cap

About the version with shorts, the top outfit seems too oldish.

But this is just my advice.

His shorts and boots look great. Though I agree with Ned, he's still look oldies. I think you should edit his vest and hat too.

Hey man, keep trying to send you private messages but your inbox is full.  Here's the message I was trying to send you:

Uploaded the assets to the thread.  I seen that Japanese translation a couple years before, not that much different from the retelling of the story that I plan to do except I'm dropping that terrible "Luke I'm your father" bit.  Instead Big Al which I'm not sure if he was originally Lord J. in the first rushing beat and if he was I never did find out how they explained his death and joining sides in the second game, but when clones are involved you can pretty much explain anything, who knows...But either way Lord J. is going to be the final boss and the engineer of the Jikas stimulate super steroid in the form of a recreational narcotic in his maniacal attempt to further the evolution of mankind and is connected with the conspiracy between the deutsche mark pharmaceutical giant that provided him with his small clone army.  So same general concept, just executed more coherently.

Let me know if you need anything else?

Boxer

Since I wrote that I now know it wasn't Lord J. that was the final boss in rival turf the Japanese version it was Kintara and I'm still not sure if Lord J. was his clone or not.  Either way, I have everything lined out on that end.  If it's all right with you I would like to have your e-mail account so we can talk back and forth in more detail as this project comes along.  Plus I don't think I mentioned it but I'm glad we found each other since the shutdown of lavalit.

That's weird. I don't understand why it would be full. Anyway, I sent you a pm with my email. Let me know if you received it.

I noticed that Norton can perform Big Al's moves in Brawl Brothers. They are secret moves but if I remember correctly, the Norton clone you fight performs them as well. I think that was their way of trying to connect them as father and son. I do agree that it is terrible plot point. I'm all for a better, more coherent story. Funny thing is I also thought it was Lord J.

I'm currently working on the hud and menu. Maybe I'll be able to have a demo of the first stage or part of by end of the week. Yeah, man. I'm glad we linked back up.

I got your pm, thank you.  Do you need the hud assets?

There is a little bit of editing I would like to do on this level, mainly a large portrait showing Lord J. and Dieter the CEO of deutsche mark pharmaceutical.  Basically just to establish the connection for the inevitable Rushing beat brawl brothers mod.

Some barely recognizable editing was done to this stage.  I removed the statues from the brick pillars because even as a kid I thought they were highly out of place in this stage.  I think I may add a fire extinguisher to one of them in the future.

Nice rips, GlassJawBoxer. Here is the small demo. Nothing special but this is proof that I've been working on it. Sorry, for being late.

cool guys!

i've tried the demo, it's really cool, makes me want to do a rushing beat mod myself! oh, so bad i don't have time!  ;D

anyway, the only thing that doesn't fit for me is the black bar  and the HUD up on the stage. In my opinion, it is better to put them down.

other than this, keep up the good work!

That's bad ass my man, real nice to see a working prototype.  We'll have to figure out why those sprites are coming off jittery in some animations.  Also it's good to see that my spritesheets speak for themselves, you had the characters in the edited animations playing exactly how I envisioned except for the fact that Ozie's jumping dropkick is a straight up attack and not an out attack, the jumping out attack is his jumping punch.  And like Pierwolf mentioned it looks like the stage is scrunched down a little too far.  A lot of work ahead of us hopefully with your help and anyone else's we can make the rushing beat that was meant to be.

Sent you a message with some questions and references.  Those somethings were answered in this demo.

Thanks Pier, I know you're too busy to get your hands dirty but any guidance from you is a value.

I studied my original spritesheet for Ozzie Nelson and I noticed the inconsistency on the undershirt in his walk animation and fixed it.

These will look better for you Joshiro.
