Greetings, I'm a first time poster...

But, I've been working on this game for about half a year now (it started out as a class assignment):

I'm not sure how to embed youtube vids here (can you?), so:

It's based on my original online animated series "Porkchop 'n Flatscreen": http://youtube.com/xykes

You can DOWNLOAD "PCFS: The Game" (and some old MUGEN games) on my website:

Let me know what y'all think!

Hey! I've seen a few episodes of your Porkchop 'n Flatscreen show! It's pretty entertaining.

Welcome to the OpenBOR community! Please don't hesitate to ask around for help and such!... Though it seems from your video that you're quite capable of BOR modding without us.  ;D

I'll be downloading your game shortly. Will give feedback once I play through it!

No way! You, here?  ;D
Nice to see some of your project on openbor too.
I can remember your anims and game projects on mugen.

Can be cool to see some new work by you, using this engine (openbor)
Try to optimize your colors, so your graphics will not be suffering color loss.

Please, keep it up. :)

Thanks, everybody!

Yeah, if there's a better technique for optimizing colors (other than just letting photoshop do it when I switch to indexed colors) let me know!

Actually, I'm now wondering if I posted this thread in the wrong section ^^;
Maybe I was supposed to put it in the "complete" section that I just noticed now...

Although, if I get the chance, I'd like to continue adding content to it...

Good Job,

It's a shame that you have used the old original bor palette thou, you don't need to do this anymore.

if there's a better technique for optimizing colors (other than just letting photoshop do it when I switch to indexed colors) let me know!

yeah there are much better ways than this.

Do you have all your sprites before they were converted to indexed mode?

We can help you fix them so they look exactly like your original animations do.

you should not call it a day with this mod, the gameplay is pretty good, but there is more you could do.  Would be good to see it with it's own fonts and HUD for one, many screens could be updated too.  Considering you're a talented artist it's a shame to have degraded images in it like this.

I watched your video a while ago. :) I gotta say, it's looking really fantastic. I love/like the originality you put. I'm downloading it now too.

I have to agree with Beastie on that one. You need to put your characters into your own sheet for colors, or alternatively, your character sprites (one character) and the effects, projectiles, etc., into a sheet. (I will post what it's like later.)

Oh, I see, I didn't know that you could use a different palette now!

I was using the old instructions that said everything must use the original palette, so I guess I'm a bit outdated...

Even though the reduced palette gives the game a nice old school look (like an Atari Lynx game, lol) it would be nice to know how to make it better!  Thanks for all your advice!

I do have pre-indexed versions of my artwork, although even the RGB versions generally use colors from the palette (because I thought it would be smart to do so...oops)

That tutorial is pretty horrid. The fact of the matter was even then you could use your own palettes  (and a different one for each stage actually). You were however, limited to a single 256 color palette at any given time for everything in play.

This is no longer the case. Every entity is now allowed its own palette, meaning if you are so inclined you may remake your module with absolutely no color loss at all. I think it would do your work much more justice to give it a try. It also happens to be a much easier method.

Love the original content!! Also loved the cutscenes and the animation of the sprites!!

But I didn't like the gameplay at all... Feel too stiff and like a downgraded bor clone. You can do so much better with those sprites!

Would love to see an upgraded version of this!

nice game, agree with DC that the tutorial needs work so you dont get killed almost instantly by that guy in shorts.
DC is referring to the old tutorial for palette...

I've watched the video and I'd say it's good start!
I agree with NickyP, you don't seem to need us helping you :). You have added couple good features yourself in your mod. Of course, we'll help you.

I believe you should edit HUD and replace fonts too. Obviously default fonts and HUD doesn't fit this mod's style ;)

Not a bad game though a few criticisms I have are that the hit detection is a bit off.  What I mean by that is in a lot of instances while playing I'd be up or down a couple lines of the enemies, and they can still attack and hit my character.  It wouldn't be so bad, but it has happened in one instance of at least 3 lines down of the enemy that they were able to hit me.

Second thing I'm a little unsure of is how some of the stronger enemies specials are one hit kills.  Like them throwing you up towards the screen, or setting on fire specials.  Later levels that might make sense but the brown bangers in the first 2 levels doesn't make much sense to have that sort of strength.  It might be how you designed the mod to be, but for me it's something in a game I rarely get into.

Third thing, and I'm not sure if others will agree with this, or not, but the Bobby stages where he says he'll teach you some things about the game.  I don't know if you intend those to be tutorial areas for certain game aspects, but him killing you and it counting against your life count total idk about.  I mean if that part is for teaching about the game in some ways then it shouldn't count against your lives total.  Especially with how he goes after you, and how strong he seems to be.

In all that's what I find to be problems with it.  I'm not attacking the design of your game by any means cause you may intend for this stuff to be this way, but they are a few things I perceive as something that might be wrong.
