Hello. Take a look at this:

Yes, some days ago I was planning my first OpenBor game, it's name is Shin Nekketsu Kouha: Kunio-tachi no Banka Beyond.

Here is a demo that I created, only showing the first stage of the game.

The story is set one week after the events of Kunio-tachi no Banka. With a mass kidnapping of high school students, it's up to Kunio and his friends to save his colleagues.

So, anyone interested?

Fun fact: This post was released in April 29, 2020, 26 years after the release of Shin Nekketsu Kouha: Kunio-tachi no Banka.

I'm always interested in Kunio-Kun mods ;D i was playing the NES version of  Renegade the other day, coincidentally!
I'll make sure to try this demo, thanks.

Good start but you need to rework the sprites, the palettes include the pink transparency colour, your attack boxes, body boxes and offsets don't match and your level panels scroll the wrong way. shouldn't take too long to tighten up, I'd also use different enemy characters as the styles clash too much. I like the story so far.

Thanks for the video! It's a nice start, perhaps selecting a new stage instead (or zooming in on the one you are using now.), or resizing the character sprites, would fix the proportion issues.
For the enemy, maybe you can use this spritesheet of kuwabara in high school uniform for some of them: https://www.deviantart.com/vash32/art/Kuwabara-JUS-119165154 you may need to edit the head sprites, but i think it would look closer to match kunio's shading and palette, a little bit.
Maybe this too, for the guy with the open jacket and hands in his pocket (with a little editing aswell):

I hope that helps :)

Yes very good start but don't forget to make these changes before you progress further or else your game will become unplayable

I love this kunio game on SNES. I'm glad you try something in Openbor.

But Danno is right : You should fix the problems first.
It will be a great project!

I recommand not to mix up to many different types of sprites background and stuff.
The result would be different size / proportions / color type...

Yeah, it is better to tackle the essential, basic changes first, i agree with you.
(No offense, i just thought it would make it easier on the creator of the game, so that when he polishes it further, he will not have to trouble himself with these issues later. But i did not mean it in a demeaning way or anything like that)
It was what i was going for in my comment n.n;
Regardless, it's a very good start.

One of my favorite Kunio game is Shodai Nekketsu Kouha Kunio-Kun (SNES) with its RPG/beat em up dimension and the ability to learn new moves.

Here, you need to make a choice between Banka, Shodai or Sailor Moon graphic size and chart because they doesn't fit each other.
I can help you with you graphic colours issue if you need.

Thanks. I'll also need some high-school girls sprites. Heck, most of the opponents in my game/mod are high-school students.

To me, my opinion.
You should stick to Kunio no Banka material only for the base.

Making dome headswap + color swap woul make great results.
For the girls, same method by using the heroines.

In the past a similar project have been started, and the author created a lot of custom if I remember well.
But most of them to recreate the US version of characters (Alex and Ryan style) BUT, these edits could be used as a base for variation of enemies if needed.
The best would be to ask this author, but not sure he's still around. I'm not even sure I have this demo and cannot find it online right now.

Fun fact: One of the female mooks from the game (I guess her name is Chocolat) is actually Eliza/Mary (the female minion from Final Fight 2) with May's (Eliza's/Mary's equivalent in Final Fight 3) palette colors. I liked that combo so much that I gave "Chocolat" an early-bird cameo in the first level.

Meanwhile, I also did some recolors in most of the Shodai Nekketsu enemies. I gave them wine-colored school uniforms for the strongest variants.

Spoiler: If you look in the mod's data, you'll also motive that I've also did some green colored variants. They're supposed to show up in Stage 3/4.

Guess I'm starting to be better at using Photoshop. ;D

Hey!
How’s this project going??

Over 10 years ago Rovonino made a demo with  a few stages using Tachi no Banka sprites. I really liked that demo but I can’t find it. He did some custom sprites but robonino disappeared way before chronocrash came to existence, during lavalit days.
Maybe some other guy here can direct you to that demo.

EDIT: oh damn just noted the project was cancelled...
My first comment in a few years and I had to screw it  :P
