In the past week I have been watching the Marvel Spiderman films of the last 20 years starting with the 3 films that Toby Macguire played Peter Parker. And then I watched the Amazing Spiderman films where they put in a little back story centering around Peter's dad's lab work. Later I finished up watching the latest versions that kind of connect with the Avengers films and I just had to wonder why did it take 3 versions or 2 reboots in order to keep this franchise going in film. I feel like so much time gets wasted when we have to spend more than half of the first film in each version telling the same story and beginning of how he became Spiderman. Too much time in film today is wasted on telling origin stories. It's great to have origins and it certainly helps us understand how things came about more but everyone knows he's Peter Parker and so much time is wasted showing us the same beginning we already know and how Uncle Ben gets killed-we start allover again lol. I like the fact that each film in all versions chose their own original villain. I loved the Lizard from the 1st reboot. But sometimes I think these films could have been named the adventures of Peter Parker because we have to spend so much time in reverse and focusing on his personal life rather than focusing on the story that really gets us interested. That being focusing on how he New York's greatest super hero and portraying the real struggle against the super villains like Goblin, Doc Ock, Venom, etc. who seek to wreak havoc and evil. Which is far more interesting content than seeing an hour of his high school life. It's not Dawson's Creek it's Spiderman! (LOL)
