I'm just getting started and want to only place one game on my psp so I actually finish it instead of hopping from one game to another. I'm looking for good mechanics and overall polish, not a specific theme.

These work on PSP:
Beats of Rage
Double Dragon Gold
D&D Rise of Warduke
Final Fight Gold Lite
Golden Axe Curse of the Death Adder
Knights and Dragons Final Cut
Knights and Dragons The Endless Quest

I tested the following and they don't work on PSP:
Power Rangers Beats of Power
Silver Knight's Crusaders
One of the TMNT games
Marvel First Alliance 2

Yes, the ones you have mentioned do not work on the PSP, I've tried them too.

Some of my forever favorites that work on the PSP are :-

1. Art of Fighting BOR Remix
2. World Heroes Supreme Justice (Standard)
3. Mortal Kombat Outworld Assassins
4. Mortal Kombat Unlimited
5. Super Final Fight Gold Plus - Lite
6. Streets of Rage Z3
7. Night Slashers X
8. Final Fight DC Alternation
9. Return of Double Dragon
10. Super Fighting Spirit

More honorable mentions that would work and I've tested as well are :-

1. Fatal Fury Rebout 1 and 2
2. Fatal Fury Final
3. Contra Locked and Loaded
4. Beats of Rage , Xtra, Rhytm of destruction
5. Rocket Viper 2 Purification
6. G.I.Joe Attack on cobra island

Do you still have access to the non extra version of world Heroes Supreme Justice? if so I'd love to have it
 
Sorry for bumping this old thread. Is Rescue Palooza unplayable on the psp? Any other psp recommendations to play?

Yes, it is. The author made it to run only in Windows (and I think android too).
And btw the the PSP por was officially dropped, so any game developed with openbor V4 won't run in PSP anymore.
