Canceled Dungeons & Dragons UPDATE

Project is halted prior to completion and will not receive further updates.
I thought that was some sort of "crystal prison" spell. :P

Well, as far as I know, the mind blast is a psychic pulse released from the mindflayer's head, extending in a cone-like shape, much like a dragon's breath.  It's purpose is to stun the victim leaving it helpless while the flayer approaches and sucks its brains. yummy. yuck.  :-X

Great work on that boss. I think the sprites need a little cleaning up, but that might just be the video here.

By the way, mechanically speaking, the game looks almost done, with only new weapons/spells/levels left to add. Are you any close to release? A demo perhaps?

Mind Blast is a psionic effect, and it's utterly invisible. As erf_beto said, it's more of a stun than a drain and emanates directly from the Mind Flayer's position. For D&D gameplay purposes it's a cone effect, but that's for figuring out who is caught in the blast in a table top grid. It has nothing to do with visuals.

I would suggest having the Mind Flayer gesture (maybe put a hand to its head or laugh) with perhaps a minor visual effect around its head and then trigger the blast. Once fired it should be an instant hit, with the "projectile" being either invisible or near full transparency. On hit the player should be stunned for a few seconds (keep the MP drain, but maybe decrease it a bit) but not do HP damage. The Mind Flayer of course should immediately attempt to do something nasty if it can do so without being slapped by another player. In D&D it would be going for the grapple to start munching, but if that's an issue for spiriting maybe he can do something else here.

Exactly, DC!

Oh, and Mindflayers masterminds are usually accompanied by enthralled slaves (mostly humanoids). The boss could step back laughing as his thralls crowd the area. ;)

Aaah, so that's the idea. Alright I understand. Thank you very much guys  ;D

Hmmm.... that's good idea.

I'll talk to Count Monte about that

I rather wait for the full release of the game since looks more complete to anyway. A demo would kinda hurt the integrity of the game.

You're probably right. It does look very polished and near completion.  :)

looks really good loving what im seeing you guys need another female playable character though.. If you want and you give me what your required sprites are i can make a custom edit of a class for you.

We decided to replace her with the male elf, Tel'Erond, since he wasn't playable in Shadow Over Mystara (he was just an NPC).  It would be redundant to have two fighter/wizard elfs.

However, I do have Lucia (that's the female elf's name) as a MUGEN character, which means all her sprites have been ripped.  It could be possible to convert her to another character class, like a Druid or Bard.  If you look at the D&D classes, we're pretty much covered for this game except for those.  We actually have a set of Druid Spells we've made for the game, which we were going to let Tel'Erond learn (he can unlock and purchase them later in the game), so it wouldn't be too hard to give Lucia this spell set as starting spells.  Since her sprites have her holding a sword, we'd have to give her some basic attacks.  Then we'd have to do a palette swap at the very least to make her look different.  We also have animal sprites, like bear, tiger etc so we could give her the ability to shape-shift into animal form as her special.

We have a lot to do to finish up (some quests, jousting, adding artifacts and magic weapons) before we can release the game.  If esn23 and anyone else wants to tackle making Lucia a playable character, we'd welcome the collaboration  ;)

Here's an example of Lucia as a Druid and as a Necromancer and a Bard to give some ideas.

What do you guys think?  Do we need another female player?  If yes, would you prefer a Bard, Druid or Necromancer?

We do have ways for D'Rraven to specialize in the game and learn Necromancy, and for Tel'Erond to specialize and learn Druid spells so it might be redundant to add another character of those classes.

As for a Bard, that would require spriting since Lucia doesn't have a lute or any instruments.  She could just pull out the instrument for her spell casting anim, and otherwise use her sword for basic attacks.  See below.

hehe i got a better idea for a necromancer why dont you make her a druid as i got something planned for a necromancer..

well i was trying to rip sprites from a game called dungeon magic i was going to get Cisty from the game and resize her but do not have the time.. I tried to make the elf look more like a necromancer for you.. Unless you have any ideas of a sprite the same size as the ones you are using.

Cisty is bigger than D&D sprites IMO so you would require extra work resizing her sprites even if you managed to rip her sprites.

Nice elf edit BTW! Her hair can be white not just black for necromancer.

if someone made a sprite sheet for me not too hard probally take a week to do.. It would not be hard to make cisty into this size im pretty good at that lol :)

What about a folder of sprites instead of a sprite sheet?  You'd also have to add her riding horse, dragon, giant scorpion (it's never simple adding a playable character!)
Check your PM, esn23, I sent you all of Lucia's sprites.

There's a character from the D&D line by LJN named Raven who would fit this perfectly:  RAVEN
