In Progress Lost Critters

The project is currently under development.
Thanks for your explanations about your platform coding. :)

The progress of your project seems great overall!
I like how the enemies seems to become more complex (as you progress in the game I suppose)

They will surely need to combine all characters skills  to be beaten.
Keep it up.
I'm waiting for the gameplay as well.

I can't remember if I asked how you got the ingame oldschool musics.
They are great as well.

I'm still designing the level to record new features from so video will have to wait
For now I can show something I've made:

Window_zpsop7nvopy.png

This is the second of tutorial levels for Lost Critters. It has window to show fixed crescent moon at background :)

And yes, there's another thing in the shot but I'll reveal how that thing works in the next video ;)

I can't remember if I asked how you got the ingame oldschool musics.

TBH I'm still looking for decent music for this mod. I want a upbeat yet dark themed music

New zombies I've introduced before can be seen in action in this video. Harder to kill but worth the challenge :)

I've shown a key before, now in this video, keys and respective keyholes are shown. Since there's no inventory system like in Lost Vikings series, I simply show gained keys with key icons on upper left corner of the screen.
And just like in those series, once used, both key and keyhole disappear
There are also flamers which can only be passed by Golem and moving platforms whose moving range can be controlled

And just like before, another level has been completed :D
I'm going to make some levels before drawing another background set

Last but not least, at end of video you can see something interesting ;)

I love what I saw in the video, even the shots you showed. Funny that I couldn't watch YouTube videos until YouTube came back yesterday and you just show a recent video today.

Great gameplay!
I loved the glimpse of title screen!
Could be nice have some "level title" screen with one of the characters walking throgh screen and text appearing like "Level 1 : the cave" or something.

About music, IMO 8bits or chip tune type music could be nice to try.
Anyway, keep it up!

Been so busy lately but worry not, I still spend some time developing this game :)
I mentioned it before, about making levels and making another background set, now I can say that I've completed more levels and also have made another background set: Factory

These shots spoils a bit from the completed levels and also new stuffs such as electric barrier ;)
Also made more zombies, I'll show one of them for now, it's a flying zombie:
Bonti

I'd like to ask your opinion about Bonti, which one is scarier: the one with hair covering eyes or the other one?

I like this new set.
I try not to watch more details (I don't want to be spoiled ;D )

Really promising!

EDIT :
About Bonti
Hair covering is more mysterious.
Eye is more crazy/scary

But both are OK

I'd like to ask your opinion about Bonti, which one is scarier: the one with hair covering eyes or the other one?

Great work my friend!
I think the two options are great!
So you can use both and give each one different skills.
The one with hair covering can only detect your presence if you are near her and the other one can see you always  ;)

Thanks for the suggestions :)
Getting inspiration to make levels is fun and great experience :D
But because of that, I didn't realize that I've made too many levels with Castle bg set. Comparing to Lost Vikings series, they don't have levels with same bg set more than 10 levels, OTOH I had more than 12!
So I decided to make new bg set : Mines and converted some levels i.e tutorial levels to use Mines bg set
Here's how first level which I've shown before, after being converted:

There's some adjustments but level mechanics remains the same :)
I might convert more castle themed levels later but for now, I'm going to focus making new levels
Speaking of which, I have completed some factory themed levels and also made some new puzzle elements
I'll record video of them some time but for now, this shot will reveal them:

Use your imagination ;)

Again, I like what I see.
Good progress! Yes, 12 levels is perhaps a lot for this set.

I have a suggestion. Perhaps, you can keep the coding of these 12 stages, and split it in 6 + 6.
1st set with the same BG set, and create a 2nd BG set with color variation. This will give the feeling you progressed in the castle levels. :)

Thanks guys :D

Thanks for the suggestion but I'll go with what I've decided. Not to mention bg design isn't 100% done so if I made a bg palette, I'd have to remake the palette again if I make a change in panel, background etc

How many levels do you have planned ?

Hmmm... as many as I could make. Seeing Lost Viking series have more than 30 levels inspired me to make as many as that :)

What features will you have to make each level unique and motivate progression ?

The second is the thing I'm still thinking. Making unique levels is doable but making motivation is something I need to learn

if there were unlockable characters and/or multiple ways to beat levels perhaps ?

It's tough to make more characters since the puzzles are designed for these three critters i.e Skull, Mata and Golem

Maybe have a timer and more time equals more score. Score can lead to end level trophies or something

Hmm... good idea. I have made golden bone as collectibles ATM and there are trophies for collecting them

As promised, here's video showing new features

Aside of new features, this video also shows 2 new zombies i.e Bonti (flying zombie) and Gabow (hiding zombie). Gabow needs teamwork to kill BTW :)

All features shown here should be obvious and easy to understand but in case it isn't obvious, the blue machine on the left requires both holding the button and unlocking the keyhole on it IOW cooperation is required to operate that machine ;)
My favorite from this video is the drilling machine which also requires cooperation to operate and to move, as shown in the video

And last but not least, there's a golden bone, a collectible for Lost Critters, there's even trophy for getting the first bone :). This one is placed in easy to find place but in real levels it won't be this clear and easy to find
Oh yes, this level is just for showing off new features and won't appear in final version so don't even think about getting that golden bone there.

Speaking of level, I've completed more levels, two with factory theme and other two with mines theme. One of them features an unkillable boss ;). Critters must work together to survive from the boss' chase while clearing path to exit
Ah, that inspired me to make more pressure levels :)

Yep, after making zombies and traps, I've decided to make decorations to add candy eye to levels and picture is one of them
But before that, here's a new zombie called Zrom:
Zrom_zpsggvdqcbf.gif

It moves back n forth in high speed

Back to topic, I've made some pictures for Castle levels, here they are:

Wall_zpswgpioofm.gif

Levels look great with these :D
Speaking of level, another level has been completed! I will make more levels and implement ideas I have in mind ;)

What? did you say there's something wrong with the pictures?  nah! you must be imagining things!

Phew, I've been busy lately. Part of the busyness was updating stuffs, making levels and making new bg set for this game
First, after feedback from a friend, I decided to update Zrom's sprite, now it looks like this:

Conveyor_zpsynb1jkta.gif

Oh yes, I also have made conveyer belt, that animated gif also shows that :)

Second, as mentioned above I've also made new bg set : Waste Treatment Facility
Here are two shots from level with that bg set:

Waste%20Facility_zpsbhrke92x.png

Waste%20Facility%202_zpsmqzm3otv.png

This bg set has given me dirty ideas ;). No no! not that dirty stuffs, I mean using dirty theme to create game mechanics for cooperative work

I actually have more to show but this will do for now :)
