Punisher : World Warzone (Discussion)

Introducing Lash as a playable character for the next update. Been on a break from Mugen for a few months & it's nice to get back to it again.

 
Back working on the game again & have a few announcements. The character Jigsaw is far enough in production to announce him as a playable character. He will be replacing Poacher Joe on the roster & Joe will be going to the non-playable pool, but might return as playable later. Last announcement is that the game is changing from 6 buttons to 4 buttons. The reason for the change is to make the game simpler to play.

 
I think that C and Z could be changed to be the team up partner attack buttons rather than fierce and roundhouse, although pressing both attack buttons together would still work as a shortcut.
 
Early preview of Andore. I figured it was a good idea to invest in this character seeing how I can use the base to make Abigail. Right now he is unplayable, but I'm trying to make his combat good enough to be a playable character.


Bloodbane Sorry I didn't respond sooner. If I can come up with some cool moves then yes he'll use more weapons. He doesn't have any air attacks yet so maybe a hyper or something he can pull out a rocket launcher or something.
 
A few things about Andore over there;

* I like how he could be a possible playable character, but maybe not ending up playable. Take your time and think it over with his status in the roster.
* Using him as a backbone for Abigail is an efficient use of resources. I could also see the rest of the family end up as team-up partners/minions for someone else. Or Onihime/Yasha being made from Blaze Fielding.
* I feel like he needs more FF-series voice clips in addition to the SF3 ones. Would make him mesh with the other FF characters in this game better.
* You’re doing a better job at sprite editing and creating new poses. But I still feel like his Gigaton Press attack could have him lie prone on his victim like in SF3. Maybe his body thrust could add some speed lines to give it more of that impact the SF3 version had?
* Well, I could see Sid/Billy (FF SNES/GBA international) or Atlas (FF2) replacing Poison if you want to bump her up to fighter/boss status later on. (Shauna from Riot Zone could give her additional moves) But it’s your call.  This also gives me a question about the story; is Andore (and characters like Sodom, for that matter) treated as part of the evil faction? Would that mean Poison’s moral/power growth in the SF series never happened in this storyline/continuity?
* The birds in his Intro are a nice touch. It would be funny to see them as part of a finisher/attack he can use.  (Ultimate Mortal Kombat Trilogy had one such finisher)
* What if he could attack with his chain? In Revenge, there was one such move. (Heck, it could become a finisher taking cues from Scorpion’s MK11 fatality) I could also see Missing Link using his chains on his wrists for an attack. (The forklift from his intro could work as a Team-Up Hyper, as well as him and the Doberman biting in unison for the other)
* Maybe he could also attack using his lead pipe?
* I could see a custom intro between him and Haggar.

I also have another question: if one were to use beat ‘em up sprites as a base for them, would characters from other gaming genres (e.g. platformers, visual novels) be eligible if they fit the storyline/tone of the game? Because I could think of a bunch of characters from certain games in those genres that could work wonders.
 
As usual I enjoy all your ideas & will try to implement some of them. I don't think Andore has any voice clips in FF. The only one I know of is when Abigail yells as he charges at you. As for the sprites, as long as a beat'em up sprite base is used then I would gladly use it. Early on I was doing some mock ups of different comic characters using beat'em up sprites, but it's something I'm going to worry about later on.

Andore does have an evil laugh in FF1, plus a death cry in all three games. He also has a voice when he uses his butt slam attack. Revenge also has some more voices for him. And to be more specific, I was mainly thinking of Mondo Owada (Danganronpa) using Leon Kuwata as his Team-Up partner, as well as Sly Cooper with Murray for his team-up partner.

There were a few other characters from those two series I would like to see as both playable and unplayable characters, and I'll do mockups of a handful at some point. I feel like if Rick Taylor got in, Jennifer would be the perfect helper for him.

What if Musashi could pull out the arrows stuck on his back and fire them? I could see Pretty Boy using his “Spiral Kick” even when his torso is intact, perhaps as an air special move. Perhaps some kind of headbutt/head launcher attack like Robo-Fortune from Skullgirls? The flying saucer from his win animation could be included in his moveset, as well. Mizuki could have a move where she vanishes and then drops a log on her opponent, then re-appears on top of the log. She could also have a move similar to the Leaf Shield from Megaman games.

Ninja could have a hyper similar to Punisher and Mustapha’s sniper rifle hypers, but using his missiles instead. He could also use a hyper throw where he jumps into the air with his enemy, then slams them on his knee when he jumps down, then fires a missile at the enemy, causing them to be dragged on it, similar to how Jigsaw ties a missile to his foe for that one throw. Speaking of Mustapha, I could see him using Dragon’s Breath shells for the strong version of his shotgun, or maybe a hyper.
 
Finished up Punisher's smart palette for more costume options & reworked his moveset. He has 2 new specials which are a rolling shotgun & a new throw. The rolling shotgun was a way to give Punisher a launcher move. The new throw has a variety of attacks which you can see in the preview video. I also gave Punisher a new air hyper, since he has a new launcher move with the rolling shotgun I thought it would be cool to have these moves potentially combo. Older hypers have also been updated to look cooler or be more effective.

I've been on summer vacation for a week, so I'm back & ready for business. I'm going to shoot for the game update to be released next month. So I'm going to put in a lot of work & get this thing ready.
 
Are there any plans to put in Punisher’s flaming kick, spin kick, and hammer throw from the arcade game? Or are they being saved for Nick Fury?
 
I feel like Punisher has enough moves now & adding more might be confusing for players. I'm trying to make the game simpler because I feel that's what the game needs. Like you said, I can use these moves on Nick Fury to further differentiate him & Punisher. Speaking of Nick Fury who would be a good Shield agent for his team-up partner?
 
I think you've mentioned Black Widow and Falcon in the past as potential team-ups, but I feel like Maria Hill or Phil Coulson would work well too.
 
The game update will be released sometime next month. Punisher character is now complete. I like the way he plays & don't see a need a to add anymore moves. However I will be adding more to him in the way of intros, win poses, costumes & little stuff like that. Punisher's Hit & Run hyper has been altered if your on a stage where is Van can't drive. For example, in the video the Van should not able to drive on top of the elevator. Instead an alternate hyper will play.

Punisher costume options:

1 = Smart palette
2 = Classic
3 = Thunderbolt
4 = Warzone
5 = What If (Punisher was an agent of Hydra)
6 = Captain America

Wolverine Costume options:

1 = Smart Palette
2 = Classic
3 = X-Force
4 = Brown suit
5 = What If (Wolverine was an agent of Hydra)
6 = Blue & Yellow

I now want to see the replacement for the van team-up on stages like the elevator. Will Mustapha get something similar for the triceratops hyper? I also want to see what Mizuki will be getting soon...

I also wonder if the Ninja Warriors arcade stages will ever return...
