Thanks my friend! :giggle:

I love what you're doing here, it's really great work!

If I can help you with something, let me know, it will be a pleasure to collaborate on your project. 🤜🤛

Congratulations for this great mod! ;)
wow!! after the support of MrQ as well, Dantedevil is also possibily helping this project! <3
I really feel like a dread team is coming to carry this game to a great result!
So glad to have been part of this adventure!

Don't rely too much on frankenspriting. What you can do is take Cody's head from other sprites you have and place them near your target sprite, or wherever you want to put them or leave them be, for coloring/drawing references. Draw a simple skeleton with simple shapes. But for your part, draw a very simple circle around his head, and for his jaw, draw an oval at the bottom of the circle. I know it's difficult, but you can try doing some simple stuff that work for you.

Here's a sample from my KOF sprite style attempt of Axel Stone with some character references for my RoD mod. Though there's no final outcome for my part yet, you get the idea.

Honestly I can't draw well especially sprites style and using the mouse, what I've been doing so far is quite different
of course I can try to do it but the result wouldn't be similar to the original art so I use another method

New Criminal Upper Animation Test

I don't like the head part but it still looks okay in game, need to fix 1 more frame I'll do it tonight

That upper animation was pretty cool, congrats!

But I confess that my 45 year old knee felt pain watching how the knee of his front leg turns as he performs this movement :)
(after you notice it once, he can't not notice it anymore lol)

Looks good enough, there are some rough stuff to touch yes but overall it's good. Can I say something about the overall thing, though? I am not the kind of guy making suggestions to others since I don't like when they do that to me lol.

Anyways, it's more about the whole package of things, you see, your game is called SF89 right? so you are going for full CPS1 content inside, resized characters from the franchise to match that look and feel, that's awesome, but you should really pay attention to the small details as well, for example, the game as it is now for me, in pictures looks great, but when I see it in movement, I can hear Guy's FF1 voice mixed with some SF4 US voice, and they don't match at all. Same goes for Cody and his FF1+SF4 voices, and of course the same happens to random SFX in the game, like the crowd, traffic, streets, etc. If you are going for the full CPS1 experience you should take SFX from the vast CPS1 games library and CPS1-like games around, there are plenty of them and it will make the whole package even better, to be cohesive. Also, using CPS1 SFX doesn't mean you have to keep them in low quality, if you are aiming this game to be mostly PC played, then go full HQ with everything, I mean, it's 2023 already, games are suppoused to be kinda big in filesize these days.

Same goes for the music, CPS1 + Arranged + Remixes obviously don't match at all, but hey, that's just me, I take all of those stuff in consideration when I make a game so it feels like a real commercial game of some sort, I had to downsample lots of HQ SFX for UDD since I want it to feel like a real 16bits game.

It does not have to be fancy in drawing. If you cannot draw a full circle, at least make a simple circle and darken it. No matter how terrible your circle looks, you can use a circle shape from MSPaint (it's quite easy to use) or draw a no-good looking circle around his head in Photoshop. Here, I'm bad with circles too, but I roughly drew a horrible looking circle around his head, as well as his chin, for fitting a skull/head. Most artists start with rough sketches first before they add anatomy and other figures, then the details and touchups last. @Yotatouch can explain to you about this.

MS Paint has a chance to corrupt your image file and make all that work a waste of time.
Talking by experience, I recommend to never use MS Paint

That's possible, but I never receive corrupt files after using it every time. I use MSPaint when I don't feel like editing sprites from GIMP or any editing program. My HD died a year ago and I lost some of my necessary files but using MSPaint is not the source of the problem.

I'm sorry about what happened to you after a particular corrupt file ruined yours. I edit sprites in MSPaint like I edit scripts in NotePad, but only if I understand the logic and know how they work. If it's (too) complex to do them, I use GIMP and Visual Studio Code respectively.

I also use MSPaint for editing sprites on my character sheets but I never save my in game files with it. I use a portable version of MSPaint for WindowsXP.

After many years MSPaint never corrupted me any file, until it did.
It was my main program of use, until suddenly decided to corrupt my images and wasting me days of work. You don’t want the same to happen to you. Be careful.

🥰🥰

hmm I don't think we have any other voice version so l have to use what is available

😊 I think this is great idea, I agree it's better to use cps1 SFX sound

I like ff cps1 as so much, but still I don't like the music they sounds like a can 😔

Cody New Slide Animation
now cody slide will be more like Guy demo, total only 4 frames although the first 2 frames were very hard to make 😵‍💫

@Mr.Q!
Thanks for the suggestion I am using Guy Japanese audio now, while Cody still using american version

Cody Bad Throw System

so I have this idea in mind for some time, test1 so far so good if there is no bug found then I will include it
Based on Bad Stone Throw, exclusive for Cody other characters will not have this feature

The way Cody bounces up the handles of the sword and pipe before throwing them looks funny and scary at the same time. 😨😆 Better be careful with bouncing up the bigger weapons like stones swords and pipes 'cause the blade may injure the hand by accident. For the pipe, the way it flips from being bounced or thrown looks funny because it looks like it's rotating on air.

I know this is criminal upper but your cody face looks very criminal 😆
I just didn't know if having his face like that would look right. That's when I left it open for you to edit. It's a great work you did his Criminal Upper and his slide kick. The funny thing is that his face I made looked like my friend who now lives in the US.

It’s a nod to the way Cody threw stones in Street Fighter Alpha 3
A reckless, grinning, fugitive Cody. The change of personality, from a goody two-shoes to a hardened convict, was quite refreshing.

@machok: I’m glad you're working on Cody. In Final Fight Arcade, I often struggled with him, to the point when I often ended up playing with Haggar or Guy instead.

Cody was great from the moment you grabbed a knife. But without a knive I had problems with charging enemies.

From the original characters (Haggar/Guy/Cody) I feel Cody had the least personality. This is also why I mentioned the change in Street Figther Alpha 3. His grittier mindset made him more memorable, I’m convinced.

Anyway, I have high hopes for your Cody Redesign. I can see already he'll be more appealing visually and gameplay-wise. Don't make us wait too long.

it's really fitting why it's called a bad throw system

yeah animation definitely needs improvement if this feature is to be included

I was quite surprised to hear it, I thought cody is everyone's favorite in final fight arcade?

Thanks mate I'm also quite careful doing it because the classic Cody Hero style is different from what it is now
I'll do my best of course and I'd rather not release anything than be dissatisfied with the result

@machok,

I think it looks nice thus far, but what is the in game mechanical advantage? I only ask because without some strong incentive, why would players give away the long term utility of a weapon just for one time damage at distance?

Is it a really big chunk of damage or can you recover the weapon afterward?
