Adobe Flash

I’ve noticed that some of the mods have intros that are pretty animated. I would assume that doing this in Adobe Image Ready would be very tedious.
What programs do the modders use to make an animated intro with sprites?

My objective would be to Sailormoon walking through a stage.

Please list the programs.

Thanks

Now we can use webm video files so you can have anime intro ingame or as cutscenes
other kimd of intros are animated gifs but color loss can be a problem once they get complicated.
You can actually make entire game from just webm videos playing different outcomes
so my ansqwr is not what you asked but im using jasc animation shop and spriter or aseprite and thars for sprites
,For i tros jasc, synfig or spriter for keyframing and  krita for drawing fbf anims

If you can get your hands on a copy of adobe cs2 aftereffects, that should give you a nice series of images that you can encode with avisynth
have not used it in a while, but there is ways for you to directly encode to webm after doing certain things with codecs , plugins & whatnot

another similar option is this program:
https://www.debugmode.com/wax/

both methods give great results, & wax is trickier to use, but it gives great results if you learn how to do the chromakeys & layering.
you can use folders with png images as a "video"source
I also hear that Bender does compositing & exporting , but it has a big learning curve.

These videos where composited  using WAX

do you need the stage to scroll?, because if the character is walking from one corner of the screen to the other (no scrolling),  but you need your characters to hide, you will need an entity to be the sailor, & a trick that nightslahers uses to hide characters (level 2 heavy van intro). (think of the sailor as the van)

if you need this entity to walk & the stage to scroll, that will take more scripting, or a video (the fastest is the video, or a "movie entity" but it will have data costs)

Can you provide an example with after effect. I have the master CS2.

That’s good to know.  Right now I want to concentrate on the intro of the game.

Unfortunately i don't have an CS2 aftereffects sample , because i only got as far a learning its features & doing some experiments with its ability to automatically clean up chroma contamination.  that said, i think that it does better work than WAX

If you use WAX, there is a very useful path tool that allows you to make any video or frames to be moved around as you please, so if you intro involves regular in-game frames , you can create the illusion that they move as if controlled.
things can also be scaled & rotated & zoomed in & out.

these same things can also be accomplished by aftereffects i suppose, but by the time i managed to get a hold of a legal copy of it, i already got the hand of WAX better

another thing , i know for a fact that WAX works under windows 7, last time i used aftereffects was on a XP system

I use Adobe Flash to make animations with sprites.
So if you're gonna use Flash I can help

Here is some of my work

A-D-EiGHT: This is very interesting. I'm searching currently a method to make cutscenes with sprites and save as webm to use in Openbor.
I will see if I find a good tutorial on how to use correctly Adobe Flash. Thank you for this suggestion! ;)

Good old days of Adobe Flash. I loved it a lot.
kimono there is no more support to Adobe Flash, but Adobe has something very close to it (in fact, better and with a lot more support for newer devices) - Adobe Animate
https://www.adobe.com/products/animate.html

I've been using Macromedia Flash 8 to make my cutscenes and animations, and that has worked fine for me. Its freely available online as well.
Its old but still good.
I still plan to make some flash animations after my game.

This was me doing a practice run.

fantastic work, but i really dislike adobe products.

I use photoshop cs3 just because the layer ordering is better implemented & organized, & newer versions area pain in teh butt to "test' run

but paying for the thing every month?  animate is 20 dollars per month!

i just made inquiry about how much it would cost me to commission animations characters, the price?

10, 000 dollars per character, be it 3D or 2.5D depending on the poly-count

so it seems that learning Blender or any 3D program seem to be a very good investment & kinda future-proofs your game making/modding skills (when it comes to graphics)

This is why I said use the free Macromedia Flash 8 instead, you get the same results.
Unless you plan on doing super advanced stuff, where you wanna cut up sprites and rig them... which I doubt he wants to.
