OpenBoR on Android, broke after upgrade to Android 14 - any suggestions? I am running OpenBoR V3.0 Build 4107, worked fine before I was forced to upgrade to Android 14 on a Samsung Galaxy S23 FE. Currently OpenBoR launches fine but under the left screen "No Mods in Paks Folder!" error now apprears. However I did not change anything before the upgrade and the folder Internal storage/OpenBOR/Paks has all of the paks still in the folder.

Any suggestion to force OpenBoR V3.0 Build 4107 to see the Paks that are installed? Thanks

@dosgmaer

check in the app manager and make sure the openbor APP has permissions to access fotos , files etc, active

had this simlar issue on a chinese phone and hopefully that is all
That solved the issue with Android 14 update thank you.

Follow-on question, 1) What version of OpenBor for Android should I be using (I have OpenBoR V3.0 Build 4107) and 2) Where should I be downloading it from? 3) What are your top 5 favorite paks?

Thanks

you are welcome,

sometimes it depends on the game, for example Night slashers X from 2008 needs an older openbor and so you would need to actually make an older build from the github yourself.

if you are lucky some devs include the older APK in their download, or actually made it more like a stand-alone APK as if it where a comercial game.

my top favorites are

He-Man
Avengers United from O ilusionista
Streets of Rage2x
Evil Dead Redux (dont know if there is the correct android version for it)
Teenage mutant ninja turtles rescue palooza (this one needs an older openbor i think)
Jennifer (might need an older version too)

one way to find out what version they need , is to download the windows versions and to run the openbor.exe with multiple paks inthe pak folder, at the top of the selection menu, it ususally gives you the build and the date

Where should I be downloading it from?
this forum on the resources section
the official openbor github (which may contain already compiled APKs of older builds)
on in some cases the discussion threads or creator webpages, like Kratus.

making an apk of a build is not easy, it takes a bunch of hard drive space and i even attempted an alternative "easier" tutorial using older an older version of java.

that said, it may come easy to others, and i believe that a list of games and the inclusion of the required APKs should be a thing on the resources section.

if not for all games at least to the top rated ones.

Aside from that tho, lates version of the engine is 6391, i dont know if there is a list of games compatible with 6391

Thank you for this helpful information. As I’m somewhere new to openbor, this information was really additive for me. I checked the resources section and didn’t see any pinned post so apologies to ask you for basic information one last question where would you recommend? I download the suggested paks?

Wow - these are absolutely awesome. Many many thanks for taking the time to map these out. Super helpful. You are top of your recommendation game, laterally! I am using Android so the only question if you happen to have a link fo rthe Android version (or PAK file) of Evil Dead redux? I went to the publisher's website and saw no mention of a Android Evil Dead Redux version, however I saw a youtube of someone playing one -https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vd8wekFN1XY-.

I asked Mrs Google to help find evil_dead.pak but she was unable to locate.
Again, thank you.

@dosgmaer

That video is probably an older version, i have not been able to communicate with the developer, and in that reguard it is one of my biggest fails, i wanted to compile an APK for the redux game as a thanks for the Ash character, but my attempts have failed miserably, its been a while too, and my HD space is limited now so trying again is out of my scope currently, so i believe that i might have dissapointed the person...

You can try to follow the procedure in this thread:

to see if you can pull it off, all you have to do is follow directions..
I made an alternative instruction thread, using older java tools

i don't have the info at hand, but as far as i know , the same engine that runs simpsons tree house of horror, at the same developer's website, is the engine that you will need to compile the correct android APK to properly run the game...
Use the information on the select paks menu of the engine to go and get the correct compilation files from the github and try.
2 ways to do it , as just the engine so it works like an emulator, or as a stand alone APK that only runs the game.
If you mange to do the latter, i may have to ask you for help

Correction, i meant the older version of an openbor APK, for best results and to avoid any potential script bugs, i would go for the correct version of teh engine on android.

Thank you for this information on compiling. Will review. However, I did find the Redux pak file on Archive.org evil-dead by openbor society and Thatcher Productions. Its Redux version, see screen shot below.

Where can I download app manager which can edit openbor apps?

In android 14, I can't install openbor 6391 with apk. How can I install openbor 6391?
try experimenting using this post as a guide:

and i am afraid that you might have to activate developer mode on your device, i messed with a new oppo thing and its the only way i was able to install stuff...

NOTE: while editing a MUPEN apk, i noticed that the new author stated that google has made some changes on the way apps are supposed to be made, deployed or whatever the heck, one big change i've noticed is that a bunch of apps cannot be migrated to the SD card anymore...
