Marvel Tokon Fighting Souls

I was watching the State of Play and come to my surprise Arc System Works and Playstation is making a new Marvel fighting game with 4v4 team battles. I was surprise and kind of hype about it.

Here is the trailer

Its coming to PS5 and PC next year!

That one looks (kinda) exciting, but isn't the 4v4 fighting system a little too much? However, I remember dreaming about having 4v4 fighting system starting with some WWE games back in the day, as well as the 8-player control for a football game on SNES.

It's surprising to see Arc System Works taking on that.

There's something wrong with me...I'm not excited about this at all, not one bit. it just looks like a reskin and again with the hugh hit flashes.

Super hyped for this. I hope Hawkeye, Loki and Green/Hob goblin are making it into the roster too :)
4vs4 is too much, in my opinion, the game needs a large roster of at least 30 or more characters, to not have mirror matches all the time.
About the battle system - I've heard that all 4 characters will share the same healthbar. So you can play the whole match as 1 character and use others as assists. Or you can switch to them but your health remains the same. Like a "soul" shared between the team members. Sounds interesting.

How do you make the choice of a bad character even worse? By picking one of their worst versions.

I plan to try this game just to create content, because—aside from a few ideas—most aspects don't appeal to me. Especially the art direction; it’s the embodiment of a design concept known as "overdesign," where everything has far more detail than necessary.

Most of the characters look like they’re cosplaying as someone else.

Open beta is up if anyone wants to try this.
It looks like pc version is quite bad in terms of optimization, gonna try and see for myself...

I tried playing this game, but the unskippable intros were buggy and took about 10 minutes to get to the menu, Then I couldn't access anything unless I made a PSN account, Then PSN asked for government identification or pictures of my face to play the game.

The fact that I have to do all this just to play a game is unacceptable.

Yep, it's a pain.
It’s bizarre that you need a PSN account to play on Windows. And the worst part: yesterday I could play the game just fine on PC, but I couldn't play on PS5 because PSN was down all afternoon.

So, even for local matches or practice... you simply couldn't play. This is the future with the end of physical media.

For anyone wanting to play the game, here are some optimization tips—since it was built on Unity 5 (known for creating bloated, heavy games), combined with kernel-level anti-cheat and various PSN services running in the background:

-For anyone playing tokon and having trouble with performance on PC, perform a shader warmup in settings in the main menu (quick menu->graphics settings->Shader earmup menu-> perform shader warmup)
- Run the game in full screen, not on borderless
- the X-Mansion is the stage with less lag

I was out the split second I heard the name. I could have told you before seeing the first screenshot that it would be a by-the-numbers shonen anime wearing Marvel’s clothes. It strikes me as the reverse of Western creators trying to “Americanize” Eastern media and just bastardizing instead.

Marvel and DC characters filtered wholesale through Japanese media sensibilities just doesn't work for me. IMO that is precisely why Marvel vs. Capcom did work: Capcom brought the institutional knowledge of the Japanese gaming industry and its own established characters, then combined both with the cultural identity and zeitgeist of Marvel’s universe. The result was was something special and genuinely unique.

This, though? Import any low-effort OVA and you'd get the same thing for less hassle.

No doubt I’m in the minority for thinking that, and others are welcome to enjoy it. It simply isn’t my cup of tea.

Obviously I can't post links about this here, but it's bizarre to see the "jack sparrow" version of Tokon running better than the official one on the same machine
The anticheat plus the fact the game decompiles itself constantly in chunks of 64mb using only one core (no matter how much you have) and contact the servers each 30 seconds is killing its performance.

Even Maximiliam Dood, which has a very good machine, kinda rage quit from the PC version.
