Streets of Rage X

In Progress Streets of Rage X Beta 36

No permission to download
The project is currently under development.
Doing runs with various enemies in rebellion (HP adjusted to “Easy” to make sure the game isn’t a slog as a low to mid tier enemy) and I am excited to see the game com closer and closer to going gold. The few characters still missing are:

* Beta Zan
* Seeker
* SOR1 Abadede
* SOR1 Mr. X
* SOR1 Genesis Nora
* SOR1 Genesis Galsia
* SOR1 Master System Yasha

(I could see why a lot of these would not appear but having them would be a nice touch)

Another suggestion would be that the SOR1 boss alt names could be their GamePro names (Down Under Dan, Ray Zorhand, The Ultimate Wrestler, Mike the Mauler, Switchblade Sherri).

Ringmaster and Lizardian somehow being added to the final stage areas for SoR1/2 to have all the bosses fought near/at the end, much like how Harakiri got added to the final SOR1 stage, would be nice and make it so that one doesn’t have to go to the alternate routes just to fight them.
A long time ago, I tried to draw Abadede from SOR 1.
But at some point, I simply forgot about him and moved
on to other projects (half of which I’ve also conveniently forgotten about).
Абадэдэ Показ 1.png

As for Galsia, I actually redrew him a long time ago. I’m not at all happy with the result now,
but it’ll likely be a while before I get back to working on him—perhaps someone else might want to use it as a base.

SOR3 voices could have a “Legacy” option so that Zan uses both voice sets mixed together and Break uses US.
Thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately I don't have enough sprites to add the characters mentioned, maybe the most likely addition is the Seeker.
I'm curious to know more details about these "GamePro names".

Good job, buddy :)

Hi Kratus! First of all, thank you for your amazing work on Streets of Rage X! I think this project has enormous potential, and I really appreciate the effort you have put into bringing the classic trilogy together while improving its gameplay.
I have a few suggestions that I think could make the game even better. I understand that some of these ideas may require considerable work, so please consider them suggestions for the future rather than demands.

1. New Blaze Skins Based on Streets of Rage 4
Since Streets of Rage X already features different versions of Blaze from the original trilogy, I would love to see two additional skins.

SOR2 Blaze with her Streets of Rage 4 outfit:

SOR3 Blaze with her Streets of Rage 4 outfit:
file_0000000037d481f4a76472bc75172040.png

These would be alternative skins for the existing characters, not separate playable characters. Their original movesets and animations could remain unchanged, while their sprites would be redesigned to match the Streets of Rage 4 appearance in SORX's pixel-art style.
I have reference images for these designs that could help with the sprite redesign. These images are intended as visual references for recreating the complete sprite sheets, not as individual frames to be added directly to the game.
I would be happy to share these references if they would be useful!

2. Customizable Police and Criminal Support
In Beta 36, the type of support that appears can depend on the selected character. I would love to see an option in the game settings that allows players to choose their preferred support independently of their character.
For example:
Default: Keep the current support behavior.
Police Support👮🏻: Use police vehicles and helicopters where supported.
Criminal Support🏴‍☠️: Use criminal trucks and helicopters where supported.
The important detail is that customization would only apply to stages where both vehicle and helicopter support are possible.
Some stages only allow helicopter support, while others may only allow vehicle support. In those cases, the existing stage-specific behavior should remain unchanged.
This would allow players to choose their preferred support without being restricted by their character selection, while preserving the original structure of each stage.
For example, a player could choose a criminal character but still receive police support!

3. Improved Storytelling and Transitions Between Stages
I would love to see more storytelling and smoother transitions throughout the SOR1, SOR2, and SOR3 routes.
For example:
Short introductory cutscenes for each route.
Story transitions between stages.
Character dialogue at important moments.
Cutscenes before or after important boss battles.
More complete endings for each route.
Rather than simply moving from one stage to another, players could experience a more connected story that explains what is happening and why the characters are moving to the next location.
I think this would make the three routes feel more complete while preserving the identity of each original game.
Optional, skippable cutscenes would also be great for players who prefer to focus on the gameplay.

4. A Long-Term Idea: A 16-bit Streets of Rage 4 Route (Lowest Priority)
This is a much bigger idea, so I consider it the lowest priority among these suggestions. However, I think it would be amazing if Streets of Rage X could eventually expand to include a 16-bit-style adaptation of Streets of Rage 4.
The idea would be to recreate its characters, stages, music, and gameplay in a style that fits the classic Streets of Rage games.
I would also love to see a new story set after the destruction of the secret laboratory and Mr. X's brain capsule, with Mr. Y and Ms. Y returning to create a new threat.
I realize that this would be an ambitious project requiring substantial development work and potentially permission to use the relevant content. I completely understand if it is not feasible. I simply wanted to share the idea as a possible long-term direction for SORX.
Thank you again for your hard work on Streets of Rage X! I hope you find some of these suggestions interesting. I understand that development takes time, and I appreciate everything you have already done for this project.
If you would also like to see these features added to Streets of Rage X, please leave a like on this post so it has a better chance of reaching the developer! ❤️🙏🏻

Thank you for the suggestions, and I'm glad you liked the game :)

For now, I will take notes of all the ideas mentioned, but currently I'm focusing on finishing the beta phase first. After that, we can go back to these topics in order to start adding the extra content.

I hope that the beta phase will end as soon as possible and that a lot of new ideas can be added. I also have another idea that is related to the menu. It could be a much better menu and have a more attractive and unique UI.🙏🏻🌹

Because I decided to take inspiration from the hacked ROM, SOR2: Syndicate War, where the character Blaze had black leggings in addition to the SOR4 style. Don't you think this would be a little more interesting?
That's fair, I was just curious since she doesn't have those in SoR4 is all. I myself wouldn't include them, but that's just me. I don't really hate them.

@Kratus and @SinoChan744, if the day comes and cut-scenes do get added (understandable why they aren't priority right now, assuming they even do get added), I would be up for doing art for them. That would be awesome.

Nice one,
I prefer the one from BK3. Also without the black legging.
To me it spoils it a bit. But still ok...

Great game love your work!!
Thanks :)

What about for the android apk thats the one I was asking for??
For android, you only need to beat the game once.

These would be alternative skins for the existing characters, not separate playable characters. Their original movesets and animations could remain unchanged, while their sprites would be redesigned to match the Streets of Rage 4 appearance in SORX's pixel-art style.
Under the hood, any new skin requires a whole new character, drawing every sprite one by one.
It's different from 3d games for example, where you just cover the character's base "skeleton" with a new visual skin, maintaining all the already developed animations.

Oh, okay, I didn't know that. I know that redesigning frames must be a lot of hassle and time consuming, but believe me, it's worth it. I hope you can add these ideas after the beta phase is over:

1. Route Map (just like SOR Remake)

2. New stages (like SOR Remake) and characters

3. Stage transition and stories

4. Customize support attack: (police or criminal)

5. Rebuild of SOR4 with 16-bit style (stages, characters and music)

6. Sonic and Knuckles characters and stages related to the Sonic world

7. Blaze shop (just like SOR Remake)

And the addition of a currency called PTS in the game, which can be used to purchase content in Blaze's shop.

8. Missions: Complete missions in stages and receive PTS rewards.

9. Events (just like SOR Remake)

10. New food and money (like cake, water, pineapple, pizza) as well as firearms like (guns)

10. CPU partner in every game mode

(Original, survival, events, boss rush)

11. Renovated art of classic stages (just like SOR Remake)

12. Secrets and mysterious endings, black market: A market that, unlike Blaze's shop, sells extremely rare and valuable contents and its character is a boy in all-black clothes whose background is a dark room where Mr.X's brain capsule glows in the darkness. The seller is a teenage boy named Mojo who, unlike Blaze, does not accept (PTS) and you must enter the Bonus room in the stage 6 of the SOR3 Route and you can get (exo coins) and trade with them with Mojo.

Mojo in the black market:
file_00000000b64881f583fc4e453143bc59.png

13. Added more animations for all playable characters that don't have many animations such as: (signal, galsia, Electra, etc.)

Dear Kratus, I gave you these suggestions so that when the beta phase ends you will have enough ideas to add to SORX. Also, I didn't mean to use bomber games assets, you can take inspiration from them and make something even better. I know that each of these suggestions may be extremely time-consuming and difficult, but believe me, it's worth it. SORX has a lot of potential. If you don't know about the character mojo, he is a teenage boy who has the power of a turquoise superpower and his speed, jump and strength are very high, even stronger than Shiva.

I know my message was long, but thank you all for taking the time to read it, I appreciate you all 🙏🏻❤️

kratus, I know you tried to get permission from the creators of the SOR remake assets but you didn't succeed, the sprites and music and content from the SOR remake are very cool, you might not be able to use them for SORX, but you can take inspiration from them and maybe make something even better than that.

At this point you might as well just ask for a Streets of Rage Remake 2... 💁‍♂️

At this point you might as well just ask for a Streets of Rage Remake 2... 💁‍♂️
I think there may have been a misunderstanding. I'm not asking for Streets of Rage Remake 2. My goal is to expand Streets of Rage X with new content and features while keeping its own identity.

Some ideas are inspired by Streets of Rage Remake, but inspiration doesn't mean recreating the entire game. I want SORX to build on what it already does well, introduce original content, and offer more variety for players. The suggestions are ideas for possible improvements, not a request to turn SORX into another game.
