Hi everyone. This topic is about the enemy sprite contest for the OpenBOR project titled, “Unelmia.” Unelmia is a Platformer type game, made using the OpenBOR engine. It has elements mixed with some other Platformer (and Retro) games like Mega Man, Super Mario Bros., and so on. The sprite contest regards enemies which they will be in the game. For those who have played Unelmia, will need to participate the sprite contest if they want to see more of the game for completion. For those who haven’t played it, should download and play it to check  it out.

The enemies for the game will be monsters, but the look will need to fit graphically just like in the game. Maybe it doesn’t have to be too perfect but good enough for it. There are two types of enemies in group: Flying and Ground. The flying enemies will be aerial. The ground enemies will stay on ground or move around wherever they want, like the star enemy is one of the ground enemies. Whoever’s interested in having their own enemy character in/for Unelmia, must join the contest.

Participants will sprite their own enemy character for the game. But before they make their own character fully, they will need to make and submit a single sprite or an animation for entering the contest. They will either post their own sprite in this topic or send a PM to me or Taskmaster for privacy or surprise. After submitting, describe a little about the enemy character, any of its ability, its background, and anything.

Both types of group will be split into topics for the contest. One topic will be for flying enemies. The other will be for ground enemies. The submitted sprites will be posted under their category/topic. If all the enemy sprites are very good looking, we will put up a poll for vote. If the candidates are not enough to extend, I will ask the site owner to increase the number of candidates for voting. If the site owner cannot, I will post up sprites from submitters without a poll so anyone will simply post to vote. The enemy characters will be voted for making it to the game. Top 5 enemies of each group with the highest votes will win to be created as full characters.

The winner(s) will start working on their own enemy as a full character and it can be challenging. When the winners are done, they will submit their own full enemy chars in either sprite sheet or gif animations, so that I will start coding on them if any winner can give a brief description what the enemy is about. Also, in the complete version, the winners’ names will be credited in the credit roll, which means they have done their work to finish it.

Note: If there are going to be stolen sprites in the enemy sprite competition when we find out, it will be removed from the sprite competition.

Rules:
1. Do not steal people’s work and claim someone’s work (without telling whose) is yours.
2. Do not take credit on other people’s work.
3. Be original in working on sprites by either sprite editing or doing whatever suits you the most.
4. Do not quit if you’re already a winner.
5. Do not participate the contest if you are not interested.
6. Do not rush your work into a crappy look.
7. Make sure no stolen sprites are used or submitted.
8. Do not make dirty or bad comments on people’s work.
9. Keep comments positive, but if there is something wrong or need something to be done right, explain and give feedback. Think common sense.
10. Pick any monster/enemy sprite base for editing on your own so it would be unique.

You would have more luck on pixel art making forums but make gameplay vid first to make them interested cause nowadays people are too lazy to download stuff they dont know and without even small showcase.

I recommand you to use NXC enemies sprites.
You'll find the kind of enemies you need.
Good luck!
