Annoy me to know end...awesome graphics aside the combat is sub par, lack luster at best.
This is just my take and this is coming off the greatest era for fighting games.
The 90s.
This bad boy look the part but the combat got nothing on the likes DnD 2 or Avp.
Feels clunky.
Cvs sweet cvs.
Pixel art look amazing, it ends there.
Several groove system should have been dropped in favor of one, SVC did this rather well.
But those combos are what saddens me.
As if at that point in time they haven't played titles from the past to build upon, I mean its right after the 90s.
A few games that did the 90s justice in my book to an extent.
Beat em up that play like DnD in a good way. Combos
I really like how they handled the enemy movement patterns here.

My answer to cvs2 weak combat system would be Mark of the wolf.
That game take into account past titles does a great job with the combat.
Rant over, I'll piece together a vsgame using cvs amongst others eventually put together a system that incorporates a number of features from past titles but it wont be cucumbersome to navigate.
