Hi,

I think this is an, Important, release beta, the current release does not work on the NULLDC emulator. And Demul does not have, a Debug log at all.. Now with it working on NUllDC i have a debugger and log to try fix all the other problem's EG not flushing used memory unloading image cache. Im not sure it's just a memory leak at all..

Filecache.C FIX to enable loading on nulldc
Faster memory video rending and release..
Faster file loading

PNG file's set to 32bit will not crash it any more. But will display with the wrong colour's
Video.txt can be set in the Bor.pak to change to hi res Correctly

== These fix's might make it not load on a real dreamcast .. i cant test that at all == Sorry

Here is the beta. Now loading on Nulldc Dreamcast emulator :)
Make's it easy to see if it was ram that crashed it , or scipting error's or missing file's in your pak...
==============NULLDC fixed Openbor DC port ================================

ian micheal, we do not support the DC any more, and don't allow posting of unofficial builds on the community forum. This reasons are explained in great depth elsewhere so I'm not going to go into all that here. If you'd like to develop, please look at contributing to the main code base.

One other thing...

Ian Micheal> the old dev :)

I don't know if this is a joke or not, but either way it is extremely disrespectful to a lot of very talented and hard working people who contributed through the years - and it will not be tolerated. Please don't do it again.

I'm sorry i will not post  here.. I did not mean anything by the old dev.  Just in dreamcast. since 2002.  im very sorry..  You can delete my post's i did not want to be disrespectful ..  Again i'm very sorry

ian micheal You don't have to not post here. We're just trying to avoid compatibility issues by having different builds all over the place, and we try to be respectful of devs who have come and gone - even ones we may not agree with. I'd love to see you apply your talents to the main code base. We can always use more skilled developers!  :)

I would like that.    i understand about  alll the great work and talent you guy's have.  ive allways been on the dreamcast side..  I was over excited i should of read the rule's..

That was a bit harsh on new coder IMO, it is interesting how stealing/taking/borrowing (pick one) sprites from games is OK to post but  custom builds arent , but i did not make that rule.
Come on, hes not a criminal.and if some new coder will read this, he will run away scared from chronocrash.
Ah, by the way Hi Ian ! Great to see youre being interested in developing for OpenBOR.
Damon is the main guy and he hosts the site wre on, he did a lot of coding for the engine as you might know already after reading the sourcecode.
I dont see any other way to let people test your new version other than posting it on forums.
I remember the rule that outside uploads were forbidden from chronocrash but DC mellowed about that and this rule about not posting experimental builds, thats new to me ?
How should people get feedback then ?

bWWd you make a good point. Honestly I don't really know what the best solution is. I don't want to be a tyrant, and I sure don't want to jump onto a new member, which is why I didn't say anything the first time he posted a build (and see also my following response to him here). At the same time, how else am I going to prevent everyone from making a pet build of the engine? You were around for all that mess. Everybody and their mother had some OpenBOR offshoot and there wasn't any sort of control over pet rock add ons.

All that work you refer to is largely cleaning up the mess left over from those days. Yes it was great to get the engine exposed, but that was a decade ago. Now the goal should be a lean, mean, core engine that has one right way to perform any given task - not one with three identical functions and uncontrolled ports for every bygone platform ever put to plastic.

The middle ground IMO is to steer that talent and enthusiasm toward contributing into the main project, which is what I asked ian micheal to do and I think he likes the idea.

I think i understand You , even now i see multiple branches ( like 8 ), id just let them be and if theres no development on them for a year then zip them up and store somewhere until dev comes back, eventually You take care of the engine and merging all these leftovers making sure they wont break 10 other things is in your hands when devs disappear and its not a pleasant thing , especially if stuff is undocumented. Its like taking 10 children and cleanup after them.
You did great job documenting a lot in the engine cause it wasnt like that long time ago.
Different coders want to work on different things that excite them the most, there was a problem long time ago with darkbor which had 4 players support but he didnt want to merge the code with main, eventually he did, but here everything is in one place , should be fine, reminder to contribue to man branch is great , offbranching is popular with some coders , maybe talking about it a bit more on forums (merging the code to main ) would help.Theres not much talk about development and i see on other forums guys practically document their every step on forums and people comment , everyone knows whats happening with the code.
I would let them create new topic with their own development . Sometimes other coders jump in to comment how to solve the issues and it speeds up development.
Id make forums more devs friendly and let them have their own place cause in the end we gain a lot from their work and if not ? Just zip their branch and keep somewhere even offsite but leave info about its existance.
