playgif bug?

I am using playgif on the loading screen and it works great, except for a weird behaviour:

It doesn't care how is the size of the gif, it ALWAYS covers the whole screen (rendering everything black). For example, my gif have 480x200, but it covers the whole screen (the area below 200px is painted in black).

Is this normal?

If memory serves, that's how playgif is supposed to work.

How do you use playgif on a loading screen, though?  Is that a new feature that I missed?
