New official Double Dragon game

DD Gaiden is actually my favorite modern Double Dragon Gaiden. I am so glad it got two years worth of free updates! Anyone play Double Dragon Revive yet? It's not as good as Gaiden, but I still call it a good DD game, and stands on its own as a good game in general. The last few boss battles can be a pain though.

I never got around to playing Double Dragon Revive, but honestly, I don't want to. That game screams "GENERIC" to me.

I've seen people complain about this, and the game is not as 'generic' as it looks. I do like the character designs and most of the backgrounds are good overall. I still recommend giving the game a chance as it does play pretty good, but could have used some refinement in a few areas. Buy it on a sale, if it makes you feel more comfortable.

It's ironic you mentioned that as that is something the complaints official gaming journalist had with Gaiden. Like with Gaming Bolt (these people are basically IGN 2.0), but they're full of shit. Fine if they didn't like the game, but to say it looks worse than something like Scott Pilgrim are full of shit. Yes, Scott Pilgrim does technically look better than Gaiden, but I find the former so much worse to play and not fun at all. That said, DD Gaiden looks good and stands on its own fine.

We'd have to assume that game journalists know something about games, haha.

DD Gaiden got some hate for being in SD (Super Deformed), but that never bothered me. One of the things I like most about the game is the Art Direction – as an Art Director, I'd say it's very cohesive, on the same level as TMNT SR.

I just think some levels are too long, like the junkyard level. And the fact that you don't have any invincibility when you fall (which means you get hit multiple times without a chance to defend or dodge) bothers me a lot.

But it's a fun game to play. As for Revive, I have no desire to play it; nothing about that game appealed to me.

Thank you, and I agree. Gaiden has its own style that works. I will take style over no style or generative AI bullshit any day of the week. It's a weird complaint, as this isn't even the first time Double Dragon ever delved into SD form. The arcade game, first NES game, and Double Dragon Advance technically have it, but those sprites are supposed to look more "realistic" by comparison.

The Junkyard level is only long, if you choose it third or last. Even then, it never really dragged for me, but YMMV. Though I say Rose Okada's last stage, if you pick her last, goes on for way too long in the final area. Especially in the pagoda section and the constant random lightning strikes. Otherwise, Willy nor Duke's levels don't feel like they drag, if you pick either third or fourth. Especially Duke.

And the fact that you don't have any invincibility when you fall (which means you get hit multiple times without a chance to defend or dodge) bothers me a lot.
There are ways around this, and at least one random upgrade that makes you immune/make enemies fall down when you tag in, but I agree. Doesn't make it any less annoying when it does happen.
