Rushing Beat X Return of the Brawl Brothers

Anybody tried the steam version? Thinking of getting one, but I see some reviews saying it has stuttering problem, something the demo didn't have.
It's awful, I already refunded it. It plays like a mobile phone game.
I didn't know about this. I am playing on PS5. I already downloaded it, and will play soon. Sorry to hear about the steam version. Hopefully they'll patch that soon.

I just finished Rushing Beat X. It's a fun game, and the best in the whole franchise, but it still has some growing pains and issues like its predecessors. It has that Rushing Beat jank. The characters are all fun, and have a wide variety of moves, but certain characters are either more fun or better than the others. My main issue with the game is that the bosses are just okay or frustrating. Bosses tend to have way too much health at times, and the same goes for some enemies. Hit detection mostly work, but there are moments where I swear I am close to the enemy and my punches or attacks will sometimes miss. It didn't too often, but it happens way more than something you would rarely see in games like The TakeOver, Streets of Rage 4, or Double Dragon Gaiden. Certain enemy types can be cheap too. Mainly the wrestler and robot enemy types. They will sometimes grab you out of now where, and you can't break out of it. Why do certain brawlers still do this, when games like SOR4 and Shredder's Revenge solved this issue?

If you're into Rushing Beat lore, then this game's story is a fun doozy. You're not supposed to take it too seriously, but it's a game made by fans, and clearly for the fans. It has references tying back mainly to the first two games, but it's not just memberberries. Keep in mind, RBX is a prequel. It takes place after the first two games, but before the final entry in the franchise, Shura. I did enjoy it, but I probably be sticking with Free Mode to just play the game. There are some nice details as each character has their own unique dialogue when encountering bosses or story events.

The game has 9 stages total. The last two tend to drag little, but more the final stage. Thankfully, it's not that long. I will say the look of the game has been improved, and getting used to the art style and heavy ink shading. Almost reminds me of Viewtiful Joe a little.

As far as ranking this game goes, it might be a little too early for me to decide, but the game sits around between a 6-7/10. It's a decent time, and you'll have fun, but expect certain issues to grind your gears and frustrate you. The good thing is the game seems to give you unlimited continues on Normal at least. I don't know about Hard or Shura Mode, but I honestly don't want to play this on the harder difficulties. Not worth it, and there's no extra/secret ending for doing as far as I know. It's almost as if this was done to counterbalance the cheap difficulty.

Whoever you play as gets their own epilogue after beating the game. As far as 2.5D brawlers go, RBX is not better than Double Dragon Neon nor even Double Dragon Revive, but better than Demolish Fist. Not the biggest milestone to accomplish as there are other brawlers that already do that, but whatever.

I played on PS5, and it suffered no slow downs nor stuttering issues.

I had only bad feelings about this game. The only thing I kind of like is "giving a chance to this old licence"
Seems like the true heart of Beat'em ups genre is in the non-japanese creators now...
I regret the 80-90 era.
At least fans and kind of ok non japanese companies makes descent to good games in this style.

There are plenty of great ones out there. Ironic, most of them are coming from non Japanese developers but this never bothered me. Somebody has to keep the spirit alive. These games have only made me happy or happier.

I've only found two written reviews so far, and nothing on youtube yet.

I'm gonna check it out when i get paid since I spent a fortune on groceries and I really like the Rushing Beat games on the SNES. I'm gonna double dip on this one buy it digitally and keep the physical version as a collector's item.

I'm preording my copy from GameStop. They only have the standard editions though. I'm thinking about ordering a special edition since there's still time to get them but i'm not sure yet.

No problem to me either with the fact they are non japanese!
Actually SOR4 is from my country. Even if it's definitely not perfect, I'm glad creators from the world (who are fans as well) makes games that japanese cannot make anymore.

We are in a good era of beat'em up, but I don't expect much from japan in this style.
Even if their fighting games are still the best to me.

I had the opportunity to put my hands on the game.
Gameplaywise it's not that bad actually.
Beside it seems like the d pad "diagonal" controls are messed up (for me), however stick control is ok.

I just don't like the overall colors, models, shadding, voices, music.
The artistic elements are absolutly messed up to me.

2D artworks (lineart) are descent, but ugly color as well...

Some colors and background definitely do look better than others. I actually like to look at the characters and the shading overall. Namely the main playable characters.

Same Here buddy i had to use the analog stick the whole time because the diagonals dont work with the D-Pad for some reason. I just did a full playthrough that i will upload later and i can honestly say i had zero fun playing it and towards the end it starts to get super annoying (Also fighting the same bosses over and over was awful) And the game dragged on waaaaay too long it toke me around 2 Hours and 19 mins to finish "Free Mode so i didnt even have to put up with cut scenes" So i guess story mode is even longer to playthrough.

Also one of the most annoying last bosses in history hahaha. I cant see me ever playing it again but that is just me. Anyone who likes it more power too them "I wish i did"

The diagonal D-Pad controls never gave me any trouble on PS5 at least. Analong worked great too, but the D-Pad is more comfortable for me. Though this is clearly a personal preference thing.

I completed Rushing Beat X again, but this time with Free Mode on Normal. I actually did better here, than my first playthrough, but the game still has bullshit enemy design or hazards I don't like. Parrying is honestly not worth it. Combo cancelling is and dash cancelling to an extent are way more more worth doing. Though even dash cancelling can cause more trouble than its worth with certain enemy types.

I learned something, and that's if you're attacking from the Z-Axis (the game is a 2.5D brawler), you have a much easier time avoiding bullshit grabs, or avoiding immediate attacks from specific bosses. I don't know if this was exactly intentional, as sometimes the Z-Axis method doesn't work, or you're better off just memorizing a boss's attack pattern, wait out, and start the process all over again.

The ranking system is mostly useless as it boils down to getting a high combo score for each section, and that's about it. It's fun, but it does lose its appeal somewhat. There is a challenge to this game, but at least on Easy and Normal, you get unlimited continues. I take it this was more so done for casual play, but that means certain players are just going to brute force it, nor learn the more of the combo system.

Some alternate paths are not worth going to, or just wastes more time. I am more so referring to the last two levels. Just keep going straight and skip the rooms. Food items you want to hold on to, until you get the proper ingredients and make them at the shop. They way you get better buffs, and stock up on them in case of a tough fight.

I stuck with Blid in the first quarter of my playthrough, then Wendy until near a little over the halfway point, and stuck with Kazan. These characters are so much fun, but as much as I love Wendy, Kazan is stealing the show for me. He's basically the brawler version of Ryu Hayabusa in this game! Bild is fun and he has some of the best wrestling moves in this game!

Beating Free Mode unlocks Boss Rush mode. There are no other bonus features after this. The only thing afterward is do story mode and get the other characters endings for achievements, but I am not going to do that each time, or I might stick with Easy Mode to get it over with faster.

I like this game, but I can't give it any higher than a 6/10. Not unless they fix some issues and some odd bugs. I had soft crash on stage 5 in my first playthrough, and for my second on free mode, I had to do stage 5 again, because the game didn't save when I started stage 6 the night before for whatever reason. I will still play on occasion and do boss rush, but I don't see myself playing the harder difficulties. Especially if they limit your continues.

Yeah i think the D-Pad problem is a PC thing. I also had alot of mini stutters aswell (You will see in my playthrough im uploading it now) And fair play that you replayed it just a shame about the bugs you run into. This game defo needs a patch sooner rather than later , Then maybe i will replay it. I doubt i will but i mite hahaha.

I do not get the reference nor joke. That's the first i've heard for somebody that didn't like a 2.5D brawler. If that's what you're going with.
It's a running joke we have here about a popular, incorrect term – "2.5D" – because it doesn't make any sense since we don't have half a dimension (mathematically, yes, but physically, no).

It's the same thing that happens when someone asks "can you do X in OpenBOR?" instead of asking HOW to do it.

In both cases, we usually answer "every time someone says that, a panda cub dies. Think of the pandas."

:)

It's a joke about the phrase itself, which has no real technical basis and gets thrown around as a catch-all for anything with polygonal assets, a flat playfield, and a mostly fixed camera.

Problem is that people keep conflating assets, projection, and world structure. Games like Streets of Rage get called "2D" because they use sprites, even though the playspace is functionally 3D - movement across three axes, collision depth, elevation, airborne states, and so on. On the flip side, games like Street Fighter EX or IV get called "3D" because the models are volumetric, even though the world and gameplay are still fundamentally two-dimensional.

Rushing Beat X does not even sit in that gray area. Fixed camera or not, it has volumetric polygon models and genuine three-axis movement. Put simply, it's 3D.
