Always been a Golden Axe fan! The sheer number of characters is a huge plus, I've always wanted to play as a lizardman! Sure, they can't use magic like the protagonists can, but, I'm a lizard kicking some ass, fite me!

The real fun of this comes with the NPC Menu, which lets you call out up to two additional characters to lend a hand. So even if I've got no friends to play with, I don't have to play it alone! All the team-up ideas are fun, with the idea of the classic trio of Ax, Tyris and Gilius going ride-or-die together, or have a small renegade squad of lizardmen, or play as the walking dead... or even have Death-Adder rampaging the countryside with his monstrous lieutenants!

The only thing that brings this to a 4/5 as opposed to a 5/5 for me is that it seems like the NPC summoning is bugged in regards to the stage transition. When the stage transitions to the next, it seems like the game only remembers the most recent one called in the following stage... but both NPC slots are still considered occupied, so you can't just call your other buddy again. Hopefully this can be figured out soon and patched, so that I can happily call this a 5/5 Remake.
A promising game; I like how it maintained the violence and pacing of the original. The number of playable characters is impressive, but what caught my attention the most was the NPC selection menu.

Right off the bat, some bugs appeared regarding multiplayer and NPCs. In one case, a player grabbed the second player in a grapple and left them lying down, bugged, unable to escape the grab. Another bug with the NPC is its spawn, getting stuck at the top of the screen for a few seconds. I also think you should polish the damage, enemy balancing, and NPC aggressiveness.

It's already a great game, but if it continues like this, it has everything it takes to be among the best in OpenBOR.

Thanks Salohand; the bigger the game gets, the more things there are to work on.
It's a long and patient process because most of the time, you're left to tackle an update with a huge number of elements to develop on your own.

I've taken note of these issues and will try to fix them for the next public update ;)
The Golden Axe we wish we had when it released back then.

Thanks Shirakani. Back then, game development took an average of 6 to 8 months, and cartridge space was limited as well.
We'll see where this adventure takes us :)
