I need to create soundfonts (NES-SNES)

I dont like very much the 8bit soundfonts, so I would like if someone can explain me how to creeate my own.

what I want is to rip the sounds from the Double Dragon series, the kunio-kun series and the TMNT series, but I don't klnow where to start.

same with SNES, I want to create soundfonts with Super DD and the snes kunio games samples.

:)

yeah I'm already using Sythfont. I have made lot of remixes.

that thread explains how to use sythfont. What I need is to rip sounds from nes/snes games to create soundfonts to use on that program.

There is a link in my thread to more info on this subject, over at vgmusic.com -

Check the thread for details, you need to rip instrument samples from SPC files, using one of the tools, and the program you need to make soundfonts is called Viena, by the creator of SynthFont.

I'm new to making soundfonts myself so I didn't cover this in the thread.

Instead of making soundfonts thou, SynthFont will let you load a .wav directly as an instrument instead of a soundfont.  Just click to load SFF and choose a .WAV file as you would a .sff file.

You can alternatively use ModPlug Tracker which will also directly use samples, and also seems to handle them much better.

That's not what I'm asking for...

Beastie, thanks for the link to that thread.
Do you have any information about ripping nes samples??

nah NES is different, but the vst plugins I mentioned in the other thread emulate the NES soundboard, so you can configure it to get any nes sound, just add the vst plugin and use that instead of soundfonts.

Some worth mentioning here is these free NES soundcard inspired VST instruments, Peach, Triforce and Toad
http://tweakbench.com/peach
http://tweakbench.com/triforce
http://tweakbench.com/toad

These are great for making your own authentic sounding NES tracks

DIF have you at least tried the soundfount I gave you? I tried it here and its great.
yeah I tried it since Nycky shared the link on the thread you linked before. but the DDnish tunes aren't there (at least from what I can hear).

Beastie, Im trying now the VSTi, still cannot get the desired result, but I guess is my lack of experience. It would be great to be able to separate channels from .nsf's

remember there is 3 vst's, each is different, Peach is like the lead synths from nes, triforce bass and other stuff, toad is the drumkit.  Yeah I had the same problem with NSF's, why is easier to get a good midi someones tracked.  I don't use synthfont much, only for simple tracks.  If I have to split midi's up etc. I move to pro tools or cubase.  I'll see if I can work out a way to do it in synthfont for you.  Send me one of the midi's you have.  I'm not the best with midi tracking, I'm more of an audio engineer, just mess with this stuff for fun sometimes.

Here some nes sfx/samples that might be useful for you,
https://www.dropbox.com/s/6zisxn3ypwc3z81/nes-samples.zip

somewhere I have all the sfx ripped from toad vst, many standard/familiar nes sfx like the punchout stuff, might be cool for hit fx.  I'll try find em for ya.

EDIT:  - You can try this program http://www.anvilstudio.com/ to edit midi files and reassign tracks to different instruments or duplicate etc. and re-save as a new midi.

thanks. some programs like cubase don't run on my laptop because it's too shitty and old... even when I close gimp it leaves my pc running very slow. Main reason to stick with paint and synthfont...

for example I want this midi:
http://www.vgmusic.com/music/console/nintendo/gba/dda_Truck_Blue.mid
(which originally is this song):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gp7fXuEj_Wc

and turn that midi to soud like this tune:

So you are trying to make SNES sounding tracks, or NES sounding tracks?

btw have you you tried graphics gale instead of gimp?

both

never tried graphics gale. is it any good??

edit: I remember I downloaded that program, need to check my portable hard disk (once I figure how to get the USB to work, suddenly it doesn't recognize it).

Check the vgmusic thread again, instead of spctool try openspc, you might need dosbox to get it working thou.

convert double dragon snes tracks to .IT files and open them in ModPlugTracker, from there you can save the samples and use them in other tracks.

Forgot to mention there is more than the plugins I originally linked.

Maybe some of these will be better for making the NES sounds you want.
