Greetings, everybody!

I've recently downloaded the latest Openbor version (4086, at the time) and tried to play Marvel First Alliance 2. It kept on crashing, so I took a look at the system settings and found something that I also found on other versions: the Total RAM showed is something around 24500MB, both on my PSP GO and PSP-3000, which is far below the actual RAM of those consoles (64MB, if I'm not mistaken). Can anyone help me there? Is there a way of increasing the Total RAM? Is it something inherent to the PSP versions of Openbor? Thanks for your attention.

Welcome to the forum!

Taking a wild guess, it could be that RAM is limited to 24MB when a PSP is detected to accommodate the lowest common denominator (32MB for PSP Phat). If that were the case, it might not have been possible to differentiate between PSP models, or no one bothered coding to do so as the newer ones were released.

Again, that's just a guess. I work on the core engine - not the ports. Hopefully one of our porting gurus can chime in and get you a more solid answer.

Thanks for the feedback, DC! A friend of mine had guessed something along those lines, but I had to read it from the masters themselves. So, porting gurus, I turn to you! Help this poor Brazilian with questionable English skills! =P

Hey dude! Welcome to Chronocrash! First of all good that you went to the official post of the mod for help. I'm posting something there that may lead to an answer that we might look for. For the ram, checking the specs of PSP-3000 and the PSP Go, they are really 64MB and the fact that what DC said is probably the culprit, since the PSP version is designed for the original PSP (PSP-1000), therefore it used an allocated 24MB.

If you think about it though, this is actually a double edged sword, the advantage is that it already fixed the allocation to accommodate backwards compatibility with the 1000 variants as well as to the others. The main disadvantage is the fact that it dumbed down the capacity of the build for the other recent PSPs, which a lot of people would get angry with, since most people don't use the 1000 and are using the newer ones from 2000 to Go.

For me though, I would prefer that people, even people with old hardware, should still use OpenBOR. If it's not a bother to you with the FPS of the mods you play with it, then it's no problem, but what I'm concerned with is the HD releases that I've seen brewing here like SOR4 that are slower on mobile devices because of their sprites, so unless a lot of people use newer hardware with high capacity and want to play HD games or people want to use their old hardware because of nostalgia, with the sacrifice of not running HD mods or mods that require high RAM usage (such as RV2.4) then we couldn't say to change things the way they are.

But again, this is something out of my field, I only worked so far at the Android build, the one focused on it was SX and he's not around here anymore. Until someone wants to maintain the PSP build and want to carry on the legacy, that's something for me not to dabble onto that much, but I hope you got something out of what I said.  :)
