That's also my assumption when i see these long strings. Since earlier you managed to add your own text into the game, maybe worth a try to edit this text again with a longer string (>100) and see what happens. Ideally the game's code would behave like "after 32 characters stop until a button is pressed and continue displaying the next 32 and so on....until a textbox end is found".
 
Its 32 tiles but we will have 2 characters per tile so 64 characters per text box (player presses key to continue)

I mostly worked with msgd1080.prg if you can just start with that file and we can go from there.

I didn't consider yet the length to be honest, I first focused on trying to understand the story. Anyway hopefully with this you can do some testing.
You might need to remove/replace characters ¿ ¡ á é í ó ú ñ -- there is no proper font for it yet.

As a side note - how can a certain file be imported into the game? I tried replacing the file in the ISO but no characters display in the textbox, just some corrupted graphics. Knowing how would also help me to test :)

Just figured out where the battle text is stored thanks to my new relative search tool. I have to redump all the text for the game now as some files use a different lookup table like PROG.PRG and anything starting EMP_.

@samurai2005 I want to get a text table made for the translation so could you find a Spanish dictionary and search every combination or character that includes them new ones you mentioned. Try to find a dictionary in PDF format as you can search for combinations not just at the start of the word for example "an" will match "and" and "banana" you need to try to make a list of all combinations we can leave out try to cut out as much as you can.
 
@msmalik681 basically á é í ó ú can combine with all other characters, except:

- The following combinations do not exist:

áa, íi, óo, úu (accent on first vowel - but ée does exist).

These combinations do not exist: aá eé ií oó uú (accent on the latter vowel)

¿ ¡ can cobine with any other character except for ñ
ñ will always be in combination with a vowel before and after for instance: aña añe añi ...etc so these are the valid combinations of two characters:

añ, eñ, iñ, oñ, uñ, ña, ñe, ñi, ño, ñu

If more "cut" is needed, we can eventually skip considering á é í ó ú > I could then just leave them aside and use a e i o u, that would not be a problem.
The only "real" need is the character ñ, the rest we could live without them (it will not be perfect, but it will not look bad either, in fact very little games have been translated adding accents in vowels and opening exclamation/question marks.
 
If we can just use ñ that would save a lot of tiles we also need space for icons and battle stuff. I just spent hours dumping the text properly now I am planning to merge them into 3 documents and pass them though a translation site then give you the revised Japanese dump and English I will proof read myself and get a English/Spanish table image made.

The site has a 500,000 limit that's why I have to split the files so we are looking over 1 million characters to translate I also added <br> for line breaks and <end> for the end of text boxes. You can use the site deepl to translate the Japanese to Spanish. This site is considered more accurate then google translate but everything still needs proof reading.
 
Ok I recommend deleting the old files I uploaded I think they may have had data missing. I re-dumped all the text and have run them through a translations site but still use google translate to process the original Japanese these documents are too big but just copy and paste the text you are working on at the time. I think the formatting around the text might have messed up the translation a bit.

<x></x> = means line break

<div></div> = end of a text box

Also added a file with character combinations to leave out I used it on all documents so let me know if there are any other combinations you want to add I am going to get started on the table image now, I will use the French to English image as a base as it has the icons for the elements like ice , fire , wind, lightning, dark.

I recommend making a copy of the original Japaneses files and using them as a template as the translated documents could have been corrupted use them as a rough guide.

With these files: is there any restriction on the number of characters per each line break/end of textbox, or can this be reformatted later on to adjust the length when necessary?
 
Again try to keep 64 characters per text box i would rather not mess with pointers if i can avoid it.
 
Can we leave out á é í ó ú as I always thought the order of text was all over the place i think its because some of the tiles are needed for the system and cant be moved.
