Computer Virus

I recently contracted a virus on my computer through file sharing.

My anti virus detected it and quarantined it but when my computer restarted the anti virus software didn't automatically load on start up
and I didn't realise until it was too late

The virus completely ran through my computer
And I didn't notice until the soft lock kept happening

I backed up most of my important projects on GitHub from a couple weeks ago so all is not lost.

I've been advised to buy a new drive rather than reformat so forgive the late and delayed responses as I'm having to restart my system from scratch.

At the moment I'm using my phone, the new hard drive should arrive today and I'll get to reinstalling everything again.

Again my apologies for delayed responses.

Which file sharing service was it ?
It was the file itself or the ads etc ?

Which file sharing service was it ?

It was mediafire so no ads or anything, it was just unlucky because the file sent to me wasn't scanned for viruses before being sent.

My antivirus should of taken care or it but on restart it didn't load back up again, I don't know if that was the viruses doing but after doing some research it's apart of operation snowglobe or something so it's pretty sophisticated.

I'm using the new hard drive and currently installing all my programmes back on. Hopefully everything will work out.
