Hi guys, please excuse me for jumping in with my game,, ive taken a lot of inspiration lately from openbor titles like Knights and Dragons (so good) and Golden Axe returns). I thought this forum might be a good place to look for some feedback/playtesters in the near future, or share art and so forth.
The game is an oldschool Fantasy Side Scroller Beat em up made in 001 but with more modern equipment menus and shops and stuff, you can collect armour and change outfits. Couch co-op is in for the windows version. Thankyou for taking a look

Reminds me a lot of Knights and Dragons, where mechanically it's really more action platformer that just happens to have a Z axis than a real beat em' up. Normally I complain about action being too frenetic in games - over accelerated and way too much going on to manage on a human level, but this one seems to go the opposite way. It looks a little bit slow and clunky from the video, but maybe that's where things are getting ironed out. The sprite work is really nice, and I like the little voice over inserts.

I am curious to see where it goes. Keep us posted and welcome to the community @evs kan!

oh thanks, yeah wow its really cool to get some opinions from someone who really has studied and understands these types of games. Its quite true that i was trying to
have a bit more of a relaxed experience and not too hectic, i was never into the screen filling FX where you cant see whats going on.
Aiming for more of a goldenaxe type vibe. blocking, backstep to get out of sword range. hopefully it doesnt get too slow and clunky though, ill have to watch out for that.
Thanks for taking a look

Cool concept! Did you hand-paint all the sprites yourself?
Is there background music, and what's the story/objective of the game?

Yeah I handpaint or render what I need, sometimes I find some useful stuff on itch.io too. Even the odd bit of ai these days. Those character sprites are rendered. Pixel render style. It means I can make armour changes/pickups much more easily which is rare for this type of game. I don't use copyrighted stuff although I made an exception for that statue which is the king of dragons cleric, just cos it entertained me to have a statue of the hero's of yore. Im planning to make a ton of statues

They can all use the stone particles. There's usually chiptunes but I was just mucking around building this new level

getting there.. the concept of the game is your classic arcade playthrough, however you do have a small inventory and weapons armour and magic rings ect to pick up and equip, with slight cosmetic changes. there is also a world map. im thinking of how i can make each playthrough different. obviously some random enemies and treasure chests and so on for starters. but i had an idea (idea man, look out!) to change the objective of the game each time it starts. perhaps most of the time its collect the 3 ancient heirloom mcguffins, but the catch is theyre randomly generated around the world. but another time on starting a new game the campaign can be find and defeat the evil dragon. these types of games only have a short story section anyway, so having a few shouldnt be too hard. it means you might visit the areas in a different order at least and feel like your on some sort of daily mission as opposed to the rigidity of the arcade originals
