In Progress Fatal Fury - Legend of the Hungry Wolf

So a little back-story before I talk about the project. Growing up, Fatal Fury was one of the games I almost always played whenever we went to the arcades (these places are a dying breed, so sad). I have very fond memories of playing against my cousins trying to figure out special moves and such. Back then, Joe was always my fave, Andy is my fave now though, but it was only when I got older and actually started looking into the lore of the game that I truly fell in love with this series. One thing though was that the lore at the time was very limited, hell even today its still a bit confusing.

I'm no writer,  I can't hand animate, and my sprite animations are poor at best, but I've come to realize that gaming is probably one of the best storytelling mediums. I get lost in those single-player story-driven games.

So anyway, this mod is my interpretation of the Fatal Fury story, I will be taking some liberties here and there, but the core story will be there. I want it to be a single-player story experience, so there will be no multiplayer unfortunate;y (maybe in a future mode, let's see how this goes). Terry will be the main focus of course, and I hope to highlight other parts of the character that aren't always covered.

I've not done anything in OpenBor in over 5 years now, so I'm kinda relearning as I am going along. So not too sure when this will be done. Im hoping to have a demo video out by the end of the month.
Credits for assets used will be given as progress is made.

For now I'll leave you all with the title screen.

In the new game I'd like if you put the possibility also to play with the second player commanded by A. I. like final fight 3 for SNES.

Could be a possibility for a special mode.
 
Looking great, and... interesting. I thought it would be in the Fatal Fury SNK style until you mentioned it's going to be in KOF. :) I guess Terry will be taking training under Tung Fu Rue just like in the Anime/Cartoon version. If Andy were to be chosen in the story, maybe we can explore how he would train in the Shiranui style for avenging against Geese. For Joe, I don't know, but I assume there needs to be a timeline for him as a Muay Thai fighter before he meets the Bogards at the tournament. It's just my ideas though.

I've already got the story and timeline planned out, with some surprises added in. For this game, the main focus will be on Terry. Depending on how this goes, I may add an Andy and Joe mode.
And yeah, KOF sprite style is my all time favorite style, the older sprites have their charm, but are very limited in what's available.
 
That title screen and game title gave me goosebumps, really looking forward to how this progresses. I hope you put in alternate/multiple endings

Is your project still alive?
I saw a message from you on MFG asking for walking sprites.

Any progress?
 
Progress is slow because I have to work from home. Its taking up a lot of my time. So been working on bits and pieces when I get the chance.
I have the entire game planned out, its just a matter of getting all things coded. And a lot of custom sprites to be done for certain stuff.

I'll post again when I have something significant to post

I've kinda been feeling bad that I haven't posted any progress, so here is a small video of an early version. Some of the stuff are place holders. Ralf is just the test dummy enemy and won't appear in the game.
It's really not much, but it's just to show the mod is being worked on. Please look forward to actual updates in the future.
 
Pretty good! :) *Applause* I love it. That's a nice straight walk anim which Chamat did. ;) Unless I'm wrong which you did it.

Indeed it is chamat... I went back and checked, its actually  Sean Altly... my mistake.

Andy can be the fast but weak one, while Joe can be the strong but slow one.

Are you going to pull voice overs? I want to listen to Satoshi Hashimoto, Keiichi Nanba and Nobuyuki Hiyama again.

And Kong Kuwata as Geese.

What about this?
At this point the main focus is Terry, maybe after the game is complete I could add a mode for extra characters.
As for voiceovers, I dunno, I don't think there are clean audio sources for any dialogue between characters.
