I just finished adding a new feature: Social Aggregation.

You can now register and sign in using social accounts. Currently Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn are available. If you already have an account here, you can link to your social accounts viewing your forum profile. Social links will be at the bottom.

How exactly does the social linking work?  Does it add links to your forum profile to whatever social networking profiles you connect, or is it just an alternate sign-in mechanism?

On an unrelated side note, I can't write "social link" without thinking of Persona.

*Edit* I linked my Twitter account and can't see that it's done anything at all.

I linked my account now and I think the mechanism is for logging into chronocrash using FB, Twitter or LinkedIn? Does it possible too that each time they link to FB, they can like the ChronoCrash page?

It's just an alternate means to sign in. You still have a forum profile, but by linking it to a social network, you won't have to enter your user name and password to get in next time you log off. Not a huge deal.

The big change is for new users. They can register using a social network from the get go. Now that's a huge time saver. Regular registration requires a maximum difficulty CAPTCHA and a subject questionnaire. That may seem extreme and no doubt it costs us a lot of new blood, but I didn't have much choice. Around this time last year spammers started signing up faster than I could kill them and hitting us with ~20 posts a day.

Short version: Registering an account here is by necessity a royal PITA that most causal lurkers wouldn't bother with. Social sign in should help ameliorate that problem.

I think I know what you mean, the bottom part of the log in page, but I think it would be better when there were mini icons for the social sign in too on the topleft hand corner.

I also noticed a lot of spammers too joining, obscure names and stuff.

Agreed, but I don't have any control over where they are placed. It's hard coded into the plugin.

I see. I searched in Google and found OneAll's solution is popular, alhtough they should have put it over the headers for themes that had the log in info fields in it, since it's more convinient that way.
