He-Man & The Masters Of The Universe: Dragon Pearl Of Destruction

Hey there. New he-man beat'em up game has been teased, the graphic style is similar to Shredder's revenge and upcoming Marvel's cosmic invasion. What do you think?

I was never a big fan of He-Man, She-Ra was more my thing

check the theme TUUUUUUNE

Game looks like the bog standard now, I'll have to wait and see because the trailer didn't show much.

That trailer doesn't show much. It looks like regular beatmup but looks like it has magic usage similar to Tyris from Golden Axe.

That's exactly what worries me.
Did I enjoy having a new game? Yes. Are the graphics pretty? Yes.
But everything seems to be following the same formula, trying to take inspiration from Shredder's Revenge—and usually failing, because they want to release it as quickly as possible and then try to fix it (see the Power Rangers game).

It feels like I'm living in the Street Fighter 2 era again, lol.

I have seen the teaser trailer too and it looks cool but there's nothing to going on except Bitmap Bureau is making it and I'm sucker for a new beat'em up though. O is right that this one, Marvel Cosmic Invasion, The Toxic Avenger beat em up and the power rangers one are all following Shredder's Revenge formula. Still gonna get it if its priced reasonably well unlike PR Rita's Rewind $35 asking price lol

advantage - it does not look "chibi-fied"

disadvantage - only 2 players -
the game is called he-man and the masters of the universe -

weird that shredders revenge can do 6 players (4 would have been fine)

and this one where you have your pick of many heroes and you could play as teela , he-man - ram man, man at arms, stratos, & fisto simultanously does not is sucky....

i prefer bWWd's game and its aestetics

Finally, some gameplay videos, thanks for sharing these danno :D .

From these videos, I can see some moves such as He Man can charge his sword and cast AoE attack with his sword. Teela can bounce off enemies with her staff and can backattack. Both of them can perform dodge like in SoR3 and Guardians, can slam enemies and can drop bomb while jumping.

That being said, neither of these videos show unique features from heroes and villains. This game looks like regular beatmup to me.

[Some time later]

I've rewatched the video and noticed that dead enemies would drop score. Sounds like score is important here.
About the bomb drop, I thought it costs blue orb below health bar but Teela didn't have any when she dropped one and she didn't lose any health .

Looks great! Really!
I like the non-chibi as well.
Seems like they took only the good thing from recent games of this type and improved it.
It still looks like thay took some animations from Capcom fighters.
I can see stuffs from Warzard and CVS2...

Also the game looks king of "slow" I mean the speed is ok, but the animations are "shown"... When they should be "felt"
I'm not sure I explain it wall.

Nice touch with the GUI/lifebars etc. It kind of feel like Darkstalkers series...

However it's very promising.
I'm not particularly fan of He Man series. But I like the quality of work.
Now we can say it kind of matches the indie scene like Openbor best games.

I'm really liking it so far, I like that it's just 2 players and it's not heavy on the hit effects and screen shakes, looks like a modern day classic arcade beat em up which in my opinion we need more of.

Good formula, strong fundamentals and push both of those to the limits and you have a well done game.

It does look good, and the developers mentioned they want to emulate weighty styles like Golden Axe (since most of the animations are aping Golden Axe, I guess that fits) - which is exactly what I am aiming for and I prefer. So I almost don't want them to succeed out of jealously. :P

But seriously, a word of caution. These guys are the ones who made Final Vendetta - which at least IMO, is laughably forgettable. Tiny move-sets, spartan content, generic designs, flat art, and animation that is technically fantastic but just... kind of off. And none of the weight or impact they talked about. It's like someone wanted to make a beat em' up called "Beat em' up", and very much succeeded.

From the He-Man trailers it appears they have gotten much better in the animation and art aspects, but the rest... have to wait and see.

DC

I bought Final Vendetta on a sale on PSN and played it three times with all three characters tbh it is pretty bare bones. It look nice and I do like one or two songs from the soundtrack but lord almighty the animations look super wonky as hell! I mean this game felt like a prototype in a way and in my mind that someone from the OPENBOR community will take those sprites and give it the TLC it needs but at least I paid 6 bucks for it so no love lost there.

Let's hope this game turned out to be a winner and reasonably priced not just for nostalgia baiting (PR Rita's Rewind IM LOOKING AT YOU!!!)

Final Vendetta was the very first game I asked for a refund on Steam.
It's the definition, on a beat em up, of what "overanimated" means. Basically, a Shaq Fu in beat up form - with all the issues this brings.

A fun fact: QuByte mentioned @bWWd He-Man game on their twitter

That;s cool, it was so long time ago, the game was started in 2014 , it's 11 years ! Can you imagine. And not gonna lie , i think they took inspiration for a lot of moves from that game.Very similar specials, similar throw.Manatarms shooting lasers. Its strange to see.
Id say it is about time mattel lent license to heman beatemup.
Its kinda 35 years late but if it has netplay, it will have decent lifespan.

"From the He-Man trailers it appears they have gotten much better in the animation and art aspects, but the rest... have to wait and see." - I actually think Final vendetta is animated pretty good.
