How to work with palettes and prevent sprites from being generated with strange colors?

I'm sure this is a common question, but I didn't find an answer updated to the current version of OpenBor. Well, I was trying to create a sprite for a character, but it came out with incorrect and poorly adjusted colors. I'd like to know why this happens, how to fix it, and what to keep in mind with sprites and their palettes.
