So I had began to start my mod over from the ground up (it got a bit complex and things

were all over the place), and then got to the HUD. I thought the one I was using looked

generic, which got me thinking, how could I make it stand out. Which brings me to my

question to you, what is you HUD of preference?

The regular Final Fight/ Streets of Rage style with the bare minimum shown

The Castlevania/ Metroid style with some extra details

The Metal Gear style with info shown below instead of on top

or something different and original?

I'm looking for a nice blend of all of them personally, how about you?

It depends on the kind of game and also the feeling to give in it.

I personally prefer smaller minimal hud.
To have more space on screen for action and background graphics.

But, for some reason I really like massive hud full of nice graphics display.
You can look at Ilu's projects. His lifebar/hud are great this way!

i think each game must have his own hud, sounds and fonts. For me when they comes with the default openbor hud, fonts and sounds, i got bored to play the game in less than 2 minutes, so for me does not matter how the hud lookslike he only needs be different from the default openbor because it was over used

I totally agree with that. As in mugen, when I see someone using the generic stuff from the engine it gaves me a bad impression. Feels like lazyness.

Try to avoid, as much as possible, the generic look of OpenBOR mods. Its boring.
Search for sounds, flashes (hitsparks), fonts, etc. Specially the flashes, the ones which comes with BOR (the common flashes) are something I always hated when I saw BOR fist time. The animation speed is wrong, a flash should be...a flash, not a slow animation.

I have a huge libary of sounds, sparks, fonts and such. I can help you with that, just tell me what do you need and give me time to work on it.

nowadays i prefere no hud at all, best is when game looks like animated show and you just play the storyline like in new rayman

I prefer minimum HUD. It's not only for showing more background but also to give more space to see especially if you have flying enemies or something which falls from ceiling

Though, you should make sure all important information are shown with HUD. I don't like games without HUD at all. Small space it takes to show information is worth it.

Not to me, what really matters to me is gameplay. Even if a mod has brand new, original, super or whatever HUD, if it plays same as BoR, I'd be bored in couple seconds.
