openbor MS DOS build ?

Hello, i know its a weird request but i am looking for any old MS DOS build of openbor. For now I am using the original ms dos bor.exe 1.0029 and its very limited to a single global color palette destroying all my assets colors when i try to convert them to this palette.

the rational of using a ms dos build is because I can use js-dos to run it in a web browser on any device. A wasm port would be better but i don't know how to do it so i am looking for a ms dos build that allows more colors for the characters.

if anyone could help, it would be greatly appreciated :)

Welcome to the community @pimax!

As for your question, I'm sorry, but there’s no such animal. OpenBOR was moved off DOS almost immediately into its life. Even if you could find a build, it would be no less limited than what you already have.

thanks for the fast answer!

I see, any chance we could see a web assembly build some day? i know emscriptem can compile c code for web-assembly but it would need a lot of modifications I think. I will try to take a look too.

There are already some web hosted OpenBOR games, but they are unofficial, and to be honest, not really welcome, since most of them are done without any of the creator's knowledge or consent. It might be something we consider doing for real in the future, but it's not really a priority at all atm.

I see, well my plan is to create my own game with my own created assets and let people play it directly on browsers with mobile control support!
will try to rework my assets manually to make them work with bor 1.0029. I hope i can manage something not to dirty looking but i guess it will take me million years.
thanks for your help !

Hi pimax, I've searched my archive for OpenBoR DOS and I found OpenBoR V2.0055, compile date: Mar 23 2007. Yes, it's very old and I can't remember which features it supports and which it doesn't.

thanks a million, unfortunately i cant get it to run. getting a black screen no matter what I try without error. trying to make it run the original BOR.PAK. will keep trying a bit
