Canceled Shinobi Blood (W.I.P)

Thanks guy's I'm still working on this, the last couple years have been me working on the mechanics of how the game works, It's had several different face lifts but the Ninja theme is what remains.


What I want to make clear which I didn't before is this is going to be an original game, I've use shinobi sprites as it's the best 2D ninja game around but the sprites are just place holders, the next and final step is the art, sound effects and music which is all going to be original, this is my game that I've been working on for years and it'll be my swan song so to speak, I want to sell this and a percentage of the profit will be given back to the community.

How I want the game to play is 100% finished now and I've started on the music and SFX, where I'm stumped is the art direction and the creative process of that, I would love it to be old sprite style, every frame of animation hand drawn... believe me I'd love that but it just isn't realistic, I'd be long dead before finishing hand drawing an entire game. I have some idea's but nothing practical yet.
 
Arf ok i understand better why it is so long, if you want to draw a full game yourself it will be very long :(
So bad because i've loved the shinobi project, and the first idea to have different colors with different weapons like on Gamegear.
I really wish all your script work will be not lost .... and disappear with time :(
No one never code a shinobi on OB, for sure i love to try a demo :)

I understand, I originally wanted it to be apart of the Sega Shinobi universe but as time progressed I decided I wanted it to be 100% my creation but it will be Shinobi inspired

I've managed to implement all my favourite mechanics from all the Shinobi games which I've already shown, from GameGear to Genesis but extra stuff like stealth assassinations.

The story is set in the 1980's and you play as a bad ninja who is mind controlled to carry out assassinations, the first half of the game will be you playing through stages to get to your target and assassinate them, the main character is loosely based on this ninja from a film I liked as a kid.


I have been working on this in my head for at least a decade but only in recent years have I actually been making stuff for it, as I've said it's had a few facelifts from revenge of shinobi to super shinobi and back to revenge of shinobi again.

Here's a dream sequence I made years ago, this stage was supposed to be a dream the mind controlled ninja was having


My biggest hurdle is the art style and how I'm going to animate everything, I'm leaning towards the bone method like in @bWWd projects because realistically it's the only way I'll be able to finish it without burning out. I'll show you guys a few concept pieces soon as I'll need some feedback from sources I trust before going forward.
 
Why don't you commission someone to do the main char ninja sprites, then you can make edits for enemies etc from the main sprites. So your immediate cost is just this one sprite sheet but you will be able to do a lot with it. You could get a sheet with some extra heads for head swaps, anims for different weapons etc. so one sheet could cover your main players and multiple enemies similar to the player.
 
That's a great idea, I'll have a look for some sprite artists, any recommendations? I have an art background and thus having the mentality of doing it all myself but screw it.

danno, this project is good👏, This project reminds me of (Ninja Gaiden) It's a classic game. I loved it when I was a kid.

Not sure sorry. I would look around places like deviantart.
 
I asked around itchio and Fiverr, the cheapest I could get a whole character sheet for was £350, I feel like I'd need at least 3 whole sheets to make all the characters 🤔
After I've finished deciding how I actually want it all to look I'll stick it inside the engine and show ya'll, even trying to conceptualise it is driving me mad, bigger sprites mean more work but I can add more detail, smaller sprites mean less work but it looks messy.

So true !
Perhaps you can find a middle size between shinobi small sprites and the bigger ones Guilty gear type.
To me, SF2 SFA SF3 size of sprites is enough to give details to your characters.

Not even sure someone would likely to take on "giant" sprites, even with the "giant" price you pay them.

I'm very glad to know :
-These Shinobi sprites are temporary sprites
-there will be 3 characters
 
The mechanics are great but I don't like the art style and the palettes too vivid, I've never seen this game and I'm quite surprised how old it is. I do like how it plays though and it's very similar in action as to how I'd like my game to be.
