Streets of Rage 4 in OpenBoR?

When SoR4 arrives are people going to be able to rip the assets from that game and put it into OpenBoR? I have no idea about this stuff so I have no clue if that is doable or if there are technical limitations of the engine that it wouldn't be possible.

Probably, yes. But personally, I won't do it neither encourage it, because its a very new game and, in my opinion, it would be a lack of respect with its creators.

Exactly. It's one thing to rip defunct assets. It's always copyright violation - that's not debatable. But ethically it's not so horrible because those assets are no longer making money for the IP holder, and most of them tend to look the other way unless you violate the IP itself.

Talking about ripping from something before it's even released is completely different. IMO it's very unethical and disrespectful toward the creator. We are not that kind of community.

Never thought of it that way but honestly I don't think that I would. There's plenty of Capcom games that are sold as part of collections and  things of that nature.Even from the point of view of morality rather than legality I wouldn't see anything wrong with doing this; same as I wouldn't see anything wrong with modding a gun from CoD into Doom Eternal. Using assets to create something new  in a different game isn't objectionable in my eyes.

I guess if someone was just making a bootleg version of SoR4 with it that'd be a bit questionable, but to me the game they are making goes beyond it's sprites so it's not like it's going to be competing with the actual SoR4.. I doubt it would for 95% of people in this community. I'm more interested in the idea that these new sprites could go really well with some more modern fighting game characters without clashing styles too hard, I'm thinking of the projects that could be born from it having all these super clean assets to work with.

I agree with DC and O Ilusionista.

About the COD/Doom example, is a bit different from change an original game with mods to make a new game using your assets. Maybe you can use mods in the original SOR4, like a lot of people do with RE2 Remake, because that way you will have to buy the game and then value the work of the creators.

But make a new SOR game in Openbor with SOR4 assets and give it for free in the web will not be a cool thing, especially if it's done right after its release.
