The Union - Beat-em up Fighter

We are going to be working on getting Oshun and Project Wildfire in-game soon but tonight on our Twitch Stream we are going to be refining Sen so that we can have a cool little tech demo going. 

This however is Oshun's air attack(currently). I think we are going a bit over the top with this character as she seems like the ultimate zoner. As we refine her gameplay it's becoming very apparent that she might be one of the most dominating characters in the game so far!

Wow, it looks so amazing that I hope you'll be able to make it to end! A combination of original sprites with such a talent definitely deserves my support. ;)

In the recent trailer, we posted we highlighted a small portion of Oshun's combo attacks. We really like this animation as it has a lot of elements that we love about the character. Speed, acrobatics, flight, and power.

Oshun has all that in spades and I believe her primary combo string here showcases it well.

Yeah, all the characters are balanced like most fighting games. Zoners, grapplers, rush down, etc...

The Union : Oshun's Air Blast

This is a projectile attack that Oshun shoots in the air and that eventually bolts back down in a vertical attack. This will work as an anti air of sorts, but also a zoning skill that will keep opponents at bay.

Oshun is looking like a zoning monster, keep in mind there will be some balancing that has to be done, but so far we are liking the direction we are taking with her.

In the Union, every character has a dash attack that tracks to help the player get closer to the enemy with a unique technique. For Oshun, this has materialized into a bit of a throw. We may change that since having Oshun's dash attack function like a command throw could unbalance her as a zoner.

Balance is an art-form - not a sledgehammer. Resist the urge to pigeonhole characters in the name of balance. No matter how focused they are on one strategy, any high caliber fighter is going to have at least passable capability elsewhere, and maybe even an unexpected trick or two. You don't need to remove the throw - just have it complement her zoning game.

As an example, think Street Fighter Dhalsim. He's very slow and wants to stay far away as possible. But he does have much longer grabbing range than average, and both his throws have utility uses. The hold has good damage potential, and the throw hurls opponents very far away so they have to start working their way inside again. You wouldn't want to go toe to toe with Ken, but at least you aren't without some close range tricks when someone is in your face.

Damon Caskey I know what you mean. I just don't want to overdo it in terms of characters having somewhat of a versatile way of functioning. It's going to take some testing and retooling to get it to "feel right" but we can definitely see where this particular skill can fit into her specific playstyle. The one we had planned anyway...
