Bluetooth controller not working on Android phone.

I have OpenBOR on my Blackview Shark 8 and it runs and I figured out how to run games but I hate using onscreen controls, I have a Bluetooth controller that works with my phone and Play Store apps just fine but when I try to use it to play in OpenBOR it doesn't work. It acknowledges X=Up, A=Down and R3=Enter\Accept, there's no other inputs from the controller it will accept other than those 3. The onscreen controls still work and I've tried mapping the buttons for player 1 and when I tried it wasn't reading the inputs properly, Up on the d-pad registered as an axis from one of the joysticks and so one but it still didn't do anything outside of the menu. Still couldn't move or anything.
How can I get a controller to work? Plugged in or Bluetooth was the same result.

greetings @Shepard Of Hope

it depends on the type of controller, some controllers compatible with android feature combos where if you hold a home button & the a button, the thing is detected as keyboard and mouse.

so you would have to take a look at the manual of the device to see if this type of combo system is implemented-

as far as xbox 360 controllers, using an otg for wired or wireless functions always seemed to work on devices i have had the chance to test -

when it comes to controllers made for android , those generic things have the "hold home plus # button" so it can work as ps4, 360, keyboard mouse or switch mode most of the time...

last - there are apps that escape my mind right now (something like octopus me thinks) - that allow you to further customize what a controller does

hello.
I think you would try a wired usb gamepad, I have a 360 clone which works well with all games except Magic DosBox using KeyMapper, the ps1 gamepad(by usb converter) works fine in it,360 gamepad the cross(D pad) not work properly in it or just do not trigger.

MM - i think that you are facing the dreaded input crossover issue also - depending on the openbor version, it gets really bad for older builds -

here is what might be happening - the touch buttons might take priority, so if you try to re-map the buttons, on the surface it seems you did the job, but indeed, the remap will go to player 2 or 3...
for your particular case this post might not be the full solution , but it will give you a clue of what you can do

Thank You very much, I don't usually use forums and stuff like this so I only just now saw the replies. I'm going to take another look at it given the knowledge you shared. I get the feeling it should help.😄👍
