I didn't get time to post the following  last week, had to leave suddenly so saved it too notepad - I will reply to you guys at the end of this thou.

Just an update to therain237 and O Illusionista -

Been working on the 'smart pal' turtle sheets and cleaning errors in the original sprites.  It had to be redone, there was some things I hadn't changed on the old versions.  They're pretty much all done, I'll have to do Leonardo again thou to suit the new options.  Also I need to check over the mugen chars again, I recall there's a few extra sprites in them not on the sheets.

Now they look weird atm, not sure how 'smart' they are... I've never really done this stuff before - but everything is now separated, even the eyes and teeth.  ;)

(just some quick examples, these palettes are rough.  I will eventually make the proper default palettes.)

Here's what we can do with palettes now.

- change armbands colour
- change headband colour
- change skin colour
- change belt colour
- change head colour (to create alternate headband style)
- change shell colours (torso and back seperated)
- change eyes (eg. you could add black dot to eyes by changing palette)
- change weapon colours

I wouldn't say they are perfect, i'm sure there's a few stray pixels, parts of the belt were troublesome and still might need some work.
It's taking many hours to do this, at least 6-8hrs each turtle.  So I have to do them in a few sittings (or I start making mistakes)

Also I have custom sprites for raph and mikey that need to be redone now.  (like raph has some attacks with extra sai spins, easy to redo.)
Another thing I was messing with the idea to replace leo's swords to something more detailed.  Foot soldiers might get this treatment too.
(the current swords look to basic, also too much white.)

Just concentrating on getting sprite edits finished and I will start over with coding and stages etc.  (that old version was my way of fleshing out ideas, see what and works what doesn't etc.)  no point doing anything else until all 4 turtles are done and playable.  I can use any enemy for a punching bag to test them.

@therain - not sure if you want to use these sprites I'm working on or if you want to do your own.  But your welcome to use them, I have to re-align/offset them again and they'll be good to go.

@ O Ilu -

I like the original series most.
Cool, that's what I first saw as a kid and made me like TMNT.

Yeah, someone else posted them too, they're very cool.  I will have to test if they transition well to the moves from these stances.
I will add them to the sheets and 'smart pal' them like the rest.

@nsw25 - They're pretty cool, some new palettes for them would be good thou.
EDIT: (lol, I just saw you edited your post to add the sprites, they look really cool!)

I thought of using these, because I wanted small sprites.  But then I tried re-sizing the tournament fighter sprites to be small instead.  I eventually settled for normal sized TF sprites.  Anyhow it's a good idea, you could use enemies from the other gba games and maybe resize some arcade sprites to fit.  Lots of cool sprites from mobile ds and gba games that could probably be used.

I finally watched that CGI movie only just last night, it was kinda cool, but the main story arc and the ending was lame.

I think itd be great to make a game like a TMNT origins story where they are starting out and fighting regular criminals and gangs. then they try and discover there origins with TGRI mutagen etc
Sounds good, pretty much what I'm doing at the start of this game.  I want to add some mutants in too, nothing special just some generic mutated monsters to fight.  Have a main story, but lots of side missions with stuff like this.

but how many ninja turtle fan games can there be lol
Heaps! There's dozens of Double Dragon fan games just for one example.  TMNT arcade is one of the more popular beat em ups ever made.

i guess there are lots of stories to be told.
Exactly! - you don't need to start at the beginning every time, that CGI film was a good example of this.  Failing that you don't even need a particular story, just do it arcade style.  Shredder/Krang/Stockman has [insert ridiculous bad guy plan here] the turtles must stop him. Fight foot clan enemies stage by stage, random boss chars at the end of each stage.  In the end all you need is turtles as playable and some enemies to beat up.

I'm copying the style of Manhattan missions, so you choose which missions you do next from the map.  Each mission has 3 stages, at the end of each stage is a boss and a new clue for the turtles to follow.  At the end of each stage you go back to the map, so you can do part 2 of a mission, or start part 1 of another mission.  Completing one mission can unlock another etc.  Main story arcs will become available this way, until the final showdown with the shredder.

This way the story setup is simple, more suggestive than narrative.  The rest is gameplay and the imagination of the player.  (You did this format really well in your simpsons mod actually)

Yeah same, I 'm sick of trying to fix my broken ass doom mod, so I'm focusing on something fun rather than something that makes me want to put a shotgun under my chin and pull the trigger.

Beastie your doing what I've been trying to do to the turtles sprites for some time now but its time consuming so props to you for putting in the work and I'd happily use the sprites with your permission they look great you have inspired me to get back to work. Seriously looking forward to your mod when its finished man. Right now I'm working on fixing some stage sprites but I'm excited to get back to the turtles

Np man, of course you can use them.  I'll try to get them finished ASAP.  They're on sheets again atm, I'll have to realign/offset them again.  Thou I'm short on time lately, if you could help offset/align the sprites that would help me speed things up.  No dramas if you can't thou.

I still plan to try and make some new moves for the other turtles.  Raph is way more versatile than the others, and I was having trouble coding the other turtles as good as him.

Yeah kinda I was making it up as I went, but he's close enough to what I want to do.  (going to code him again with the new sprites)

Not so much the coding was hard but the sprites don't have many good attacks for combos.  Other things like Mikey only swings one nunchuck and never attacks with the other one.  Want to try and make sprites for him to attack with both.

No rush on anything with this mod, I have to go overseas again in a few months so I really should be taking a break and getting organised.

found a possible base for old hob as similar outfit goes i'm still looking for a good head for him there's a mugen character call dq panther who has tail that could be used for him as well
